Highly recommended tour. Our guide Sarah was amazing. Sarah makes sure the experience is fun for everyone by getting us involved. History, legends, funny scares, and the perfect ending with the final stories by candlelight over a superb whisky. Unforgettable
Annabel was a fantastic tour guide. Take us through the awful stories that are with the subway in Edinburgh. Really a 10/10 experience! Highly recommend!
The guides were great story tellers but this was a 2 hour tour that should have been 45 minutes!! Stories were too long and teenage kids lost interest (and me!).

We enjoyed this tour a lot! Loved the eerie atmosphere Sarah breathed in the tour. I'd take goosebumps from authentic ghost storytelling than jump scares anytime!

This is a must-do experience when visiting or understanding Edinburgh. Our guide, Marina, was incredibly knowledgeable and engaging. She wove information, histories, and facts into a narrative that kept us curious and interested. She was an amazing storyteller and used suspense and humor with ease. The tour itself was well paced and the headsets provided while outside worked really well for everyone.

A great tour. Sarah our guide was brilliant. She was knowledgeable and encouraged everyone to participate. The active participation of group members was great and made the tour lively. The whole tour was entertaining and although we’ve done a similar Mercat Tour, we learned new things. Finishing with a drink in the cellar “tavern “ was great and the “witch trial and execution “ was a really good way to end.

We booked Mercat Tours’ underground sensory tour for two people through Tripadvisor more than a month in advance. We paid in full and received confirmed tickets clearly showing the date and time of our tour. When we arrived, we were told that our names were not on the list. Even more frustrating, the staff initially claimed that Tripadvisor was not one of Mercat Tours’ booking partners. I had to pull up the tour’s Tripadvisor booking page myself to prove that Mercat does, in fact, sell tickets through the platform. After that explanation fell apart, we were then told that Tripadvisor had somehow given us the wrong date. I have booked countless tours and activities through Tripadvisor over the years and have never encountered this issue, so I find Mercat’s explanation extremely difficult to believe. It felt less like an effort to understand what went wrong and more like an attempt to shift responsibility elsewhere. Regardless of who made the error, Mercat accepted our booking, took our payment and issued what appeared to be valid tickets. Yet when we arrived, the company apparently could not accommodate two additional people on a walking tour. The only solution offered was to move us to the following day, which was completely useless because we were leaving Edinburgh that morning. This was the only activity we had planned for our final day, and Mercat Tours turned what should have been a memorable experience into an incredibly disappointing end to an otherwise wonderful visit to Edinburgh. A reputable tour company should have reliable booking systems, staff who understand which platforms the company works with and a meaningful way to resolve problems when paying customers arrive with confirmed tickets. I would never book with Mercat Tours again, and I would not recommend the company to anyone I know.
