This was our favorite excursion in Puerto Arenas! Chef Felipe did an amazing job teaching us to make the dishes and letting us get hands on in the preparation! Mariano was also very friendly and conversant and we learned a lot about the lives of the locals people. This is a definite Must-Do if you visit Puerto Arenas!!!!!!
Muchas gracias, Chef Felipe, for a really fun morning and lunch! Our family had the best time visiting with you and Mariano while learning more about this area of Chile and participating in the creation of much loved Chilean dishes. All of this while tucked away together in the kitchen of a family home. Both of you were so gracious and we all just relaxed and completely enjoyed our time with you both!
A wonderful exposure to the home cooking and culture of Chile. We were with great people and ate great food.
Felipe organized everything with such precision. Our transport was on time. That was a thoughtful inclusion that made the experience more relaxing. All the ingredients and processes were explained. We were involved as much or as little as we wanted. The paired wine was a delicious surprise from us, who do not venture far from what we know and like. We got recipes, names of ingredients suppliers and restaurant recommendations. It was like being with family. Thanks for this memorable opportunity.
Felipe our host is a professional chef, who brought us into his familial home in a nice part of town. We were met dockside by an Uber/Taxi Felipe arranged and paid for, and were whisked to his home. Upon arrival Felipe shared his menu for our experience, Chilean style empanadas, pastel de choclo (described as corn pie, but more similar to shepherd’s pie), and a dessert that is both drank and chewed, mote con huesillo (described as a traditional peach and wheat drink). Some things were advanced prepared, premature ingredients to keep the pace brisk, as we were done in less than three hours start to finish from pick up to drop off after. All the ingredients were top quality and fresh. The kitchen is quaint and tight for a group of four plus host, but it was well equipped and it worked. As the empanadas cooled post baking, we prepped the second course and dessert. When the second course went into the oven, we sat for the eating of the empanadas as the pastel del cholco baked. Dessert was not too sweet, featured bulgar wheat and a reconstituted peaches. We enjoyed our time with Felipe, we experienced life in Chile and its culture and cuisine all in a short time. We would recommend this experience to anyone looking for a private event that’s interactive and the end result is a full belly to boot.
Filipe was great! Very personable, informative and a great chef and instructor! My mother and I had a wonderful time making and then eating our creations! Ten out of ten would highly recommend taking this tour.
Cooking class in a authentic Chilean home in Punta Arenas. Felipe taught us to make Chilean Empanadas, a local version of shepherds pie (corn topping), and a very refreshing desert with peaches. This was an enjoyable experience and highly recommended.
The chef arranged for an Uber to pick us up at the port and drive us to his mother's house where he taught us how to make Chilean pino empanadas and pastel de choclo. Felipe has worked as a chef for years but has only been teaching cooking classes for two months. He wanted to do something less stressful than working in a restaurant, but he still wanted to cook, so he decided to teach tourists about home style Chilean cooking. His mom lets him use her kitchen, complete with well used pots and pans. There were five people in our group so it was like making dinner for a small group of friends. The food was delicious and we will try to make it again when we get home.
The typical Chilean meal we prepared was delicious, as well as the wine that was chosen to have with it. Felipe shared not only his cooking skills, but many cultural insights and family traditions. I thoroughly enjoyed this hands-on experience.
Excellent experience. Recommended for couples or groups. Culture and gastronomy in the same class. Best of all, they send you an Uber, you travel through the city and everything very safely. Loved it!!.
