El museo naval de Cartagena promueve el conocimiento de la historia de la Armada Española, la construcción naval, las ciencias náuticas y sus ciencias auxiliares (cosmografía, cartografía e instrumentos), la historia de los viajes y descubrimientos marítimos, la arqueología subacuática y el patrimonio marítimo inmaterial.

El teatro romano, construido entre el 5 y el 1 a. C., tenía una capacidad para unos 7000 espectadores, y estuvo en uso hasta el siglo III, momento a partir del cual se superpusieron varios edificios. En 1988 fue exhumado. Con un aforo de unos 7000 espectadores, fue uno de los más grandes de la Hispania romana, excavado casi en su totalidad en la roca. El Museo del Teatro Romano, diseñado por el arquitecto Rafael Moneo, lleva al visitante al interior del monumento, convirtiendo el Teatro Romano en su última gran sala.
El Palacio Consistorial de Cartagena, también conocido como Ayuntamiento de Cartagena, es uno de los principales edificios modernistas de la ciudad, construido entre 1900 y 1907. Es un edificio triangular. La fachada está realizada íntegramente en mármol blanco y en el techo destacan las cúpulas de zinc. Todo el exterior está decorado repetidamente con los emblemas de la ciudad: el castillo de la Concepción del escudo de armas de la ciudad, y la corona mural, otorgada por el general romano Escipión Africano cuando tomó la ciudad de Carthago Nova.

La ciudad de Carthago Nova fue una de las más espléndidas del Imperio Romano. Desde la época republicana, tuvo un gran anfiteatro. El foro romano de Carthago Nova estaba ubicado en el centro de la ciudad, en la confluencia de las carreteras principales y entre las montañas. El foro estaba ubicado aproximadamente debajo de la actual plaza San Francisco y ha sido excavado parcialmente. Entre los principales monumentos del foro que se han encontrado hasta el momento se encuentran: - Templo dedicado a la tríada capitolina: Júpiter, Juno y Minerva. - El augusteum. - La curia, sede del gobierno de la colonia. - Baños y palestra del período bajo imperial. - El templo de Isis.
En la Muralla Púnica entrarás en uno de los episodios más importantes de la historia del Mediterráneo, las Guerras Púnicas entre cartagineses y romanos. Conocerás el pasado legendario de Qart Hadast, fundada por el general Asdrúbal en el 229 a.C. y su sitio más significativo, la muralla, uno de los pocos restos cartagineses encontrados en España. Además, junto a la muralla, se puede ver la cripta funeraria de la ermita de San José construida en los siglos XVI y XVII. Sus paredes ofrecen un programa pictórico muy peculiar, las Danzas de la Muerte.

We shared a wonderful afternoon with Noelia. She is a lovely young lady with good history and stories of Cartagena. The Roman Amphitheater is amazing. Lost under rubble and homes for 2000 years and found by chance. The facades of Cartagena are beautiful in the old city. We highly recommend this tour.

Noelia is the most wonderful guide! It felt like we were walking around Cartagena with a friend. Her personal stories as a native of the area brought the history to life. I’m ashamed to admit I didn’t know much about the Spanish Civil War before this trip, but she helped us understand it and its impact to Cartagena and so many other communities. Know if you’re visiting on a Monday that most museums and landmarks are closed, but Noelia was so knowledgeable that it didn’t matter! And she was able to get us into a museum which we had all to ourselves! What a treat, especially since it was raining outside, it gave us a chance to keep learning and dry off :-) She was even kind enough to take us to a place for authentic Asiatico (espresso with Licorice 43 among other tasty ingredients) and help us find a reputable retailer to get a few glasses with the recipe to take home. At the end of our tour she recommended some non-tourist local spots for lunch and she was spot on. We had the most amazing experience because of her expertise, kindness, and patience. I hope to come back in the future and get in contact with her again. People like Noelia make travel adventures joyful and easy :-) Don’t do Cartagena on your own, book with Noelia and see the city in a way that only someone local can unveil for you.
