Asclepio, la deidad, salud y medicina sirvió a la gente durante varios cientos de años; haciendo de Pergamum un centro médico de gran importancia. Académicos médicos famosos, como Hipócrates y Galeno, nacieron en Pérgamo y trabajaron allí.
Cuando John escribió su carta, Pérgamo había sido una ciudad capital durante casi cuatrocientos años. Después de los tiempos míticos, Pergamum había sido escenario de varias culturas, desde las de la Edad de Piedra y Bronce hasta los Períodos Arcaico y Clásico. Entre los templos, palacios y ágoras, el Asklepion, que se construyó en el transcurso de un siglo, perteneció al gran Altar de Zeus y la Biblioteca del Pergamino. Sergio was right on time on time and was very knowledgeable and accommodating. He encouraged our questions and provided his own perspective as well. Would recommend although it is 1.5 hours each way from Izmir.
Our guide, Gurkan, shared his knowledge about the history of these sights in a way that was both interesting and enjoyable. We finished up our tour eating Pide and Chai at a small restaurant. The vehicle we drove in was immaculate and quite comfortable. Very worthwhile.

The trip was just amazing! Our guide Gurkan, the car and the driver, the food, the attractions! Definitely recommend! The tour was really good. Emre our Gide was very knowledgeable not only about these sights but also about how they related other sights we had seen on Turkey.
