Esta visita la debes hacer si estas en cartagena. El palenque de benkos bioho, el territorio mas visitado y documento de la region caribe colombiana, es un lugar de descendientes africanos en america. En este rincón de africa ubicado en colombia se llevo a cabo la mayor rebelión negra del siglo XVII, mediante la cual un grupo de negros liderados por BENKOS BIOHO, un general de combate y principe de la famila Real de Guinea Bisauu (antigua Guinea portuguesa) pudieron fugarse de la colonia española ubicada en la ciudad amurallada (cartagena de indias) y establecerse en este pequeño rincón de africa llamado san basilio de palenque (primer territorio negro libre de América) un lugar donde permance la tradición, costumbres y legados africanos. ¿TE GUSTARÍA VENIR? !! Itinerario
principalmente serán recibidos con una muestra de música y danza en la casa del saber palenquero, como una muestra de los cantos alegres y cantos fúnebres, los cuales históricamente han sido puesto en practica por los cimarrones, desde su llegad a américa en los años 1,500. Posteriormente iniciaremos con el recorrido, nos dirigiremos a los espacios mas emblemáticos de la comunidad, como lo son: ESTATUA DE BENKOS BIOHO, MURAL CON LAS PALABRAS EN LENGUA PALENQUERA, CASA MUSEO MUSICAL, ESPACIO DE MEDICINA TRADICIONAL, GIMNASIO DE BOXEO Y CASA MUSEO PALENQUERA.

10/10 experience our tour guide terry was the best. A very detailed walk through of the history, traditions, & cultures in palenque. The lunch was amazing as well. Would recommend!
Awesome and organised. My guide was excellent, clear and passionate. Everything describe was delivered. (Better to book the morning to ensure the medicine part of the tour is open.) I would book again in my next visit.
The drive for the 8am shift was long due to morning traffic, so I would suggest the 11am shift. However I must say being able to experience it without all the tourist traffic which occured after 12pm was incredible. The guides show patience and explained everything very well and we were able to go at our pace. I highly recommend as you're giving back to locals using this company.
Wasn’t an experience at all. I had to rebook the trip with another group. Maybe this is abnormal for them but it was an awful experience for me and waste of my day.

It was great visiting thr Palenque village. Everyone in the village was so welcoming. I loved the energy of the village as a whole. It gave me a sense of family. AhKee was a wonderful tour guide as well, he was so informative and passionate about teaching the history of the town.
It takes about 1hour 15 minutes from Cartagena. When you get to San Basilio de Palengue you are welcomed by greeted by English speaking tour guides. There is a native medicine doctor who will bless, pray and present you with a bracelet. The lunch is delicious if you like fresh caught fish.
I had a wonderful time on this part day trip to Palenque starting from the Port of Cartagena where I was collected by my driver. Lovely day spent learning about this first Maroon settlement. and being exposed to the culture of the community today and wrapping up with a lovely lunch before being transported back to Cartagena. I highly recommend this experience to anyone interested in knowing about these Maroon communities and their historical and contemporary resistance struggles.
We were treated kindly from the moment we met until we returned. There is so much passion and beauty in everyone talking about their home and culture and I appreciate that they continue sharing with us. It was a great experience. Highly recommended!

PLEASE take this tour. Both guides were amazing. I can’t remember one of their names (so sorry) but the other is Gabriel and he was soooooo nice and informative. Also the lunch was good, can’t go wrong with any dish you choose. The people were nice and I love learning about history. You won’t regret this tour at all!!!!! Bring fans it’s hot!
