The tour guide mainly showed us pictures on his computer, rather than walking around and showing us the cathedrale features.

Our guide provided us with an excellent visit to the cathedral which is even more stunning as a result of the restorations that are ongoing since the 2019 fire that destroyed the central spire and the "forest" of centuries old oaken beams that supported the lead shielded roof above the nave's vaulted ceiling. Work still in progress includes the replacement of some stained glass windows that survived with new, more modern artistic style windows commissioned by Macron (about which, not surprisingly, there is significantly divided opinion). These cleanings and restorations were already underway at the time of the fire, and that work likely provided the spark (or the cigarette ashes) that lit the flames. Our guide provided historical background to the cathedral and the Saint-Etienne cathedral that preceded it at the site, as well as to key features of interest both outside and within the cathedral. Notre-Dame was almost lost in the 18th century until Victor Hugo's novel brought renewed interest, and almost lost again in the 21st by the fire. Visiting now as it continues to emerge into its next phase of life is a unique opportunity.

Sara was such a great guide. She had so much super detailed information about Notre Dame and the more recent stories about the fire were so interesting. She is a wonderful guide for anyone interested in a short one hour but interesting tour!

Overall, we had a good experience. It was difficult to find our tour guide in the beginning because our guide didn’t have anything with/on her that made it easy to differentiate her between all of the visitors. A flag or a vest with the name of the tour company would have helped. It is possible that this isn’t allowed at Notre Dame as we didn’t notice any other easily identifiable tour guides. However, she found us and then we were able to enjoy the experience. We were fortunate to be able to visit on the day on which one could see the Crown of Thorns. Our guide, Tuna, helped us navigate the system in doing so, which was very important to us. After being able to do this, we then toured the church. Just like any church visit, one must be quiet while touring, but Tuna respectfully answered our questions and shared interesting stories about the church. We could have visited without the tour, but it would have entailed a very long wait in the hot sun and missing the opportunity to see the Crown of Thorns. Instead, we waited in the shade, skipped the line, and saw everything we had hoped, plus learned interesting facts and stories about different elements of what we were looking at. If you can afford the cost, I highly recommend a guided tour.

Very thorough with indepth history by guide Tuna. Amazing inside the Notre Dame since restorations. Were able to take photos. Enjoyed choir concert.
