We enjoyed the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia but we should not have added the Cistern. It made the tickets much more expensive for 10 minutes in a small cistern and there was no line to skip. I recommend going to the basilica cistern instead. Our guide also ended the tour trying to get us to go into his friend’s leather bag shop and made it awkward to leave.
Outstanding! Our guide Batu was so warm, knowledgeable, and incredibly friendly. He was very personable and made the entire tour enjoyable. I appreciated his knowledge but he wasn’t afraid to admit he didn’t know an answer to a question, but looked it up immediately. It was an awesome experience.
Had a great experience with Cean!

Cem was truly a joy to have as a guide. He was knowledgeable, personable and made the day come alive. We all agreed it was a fascinating tour despite the scorching heat.
Overall, this was a good tour and we enjoyed seeing some of Istanbul’s most important historical sites. Our guide was friendly and the tour was well organized. I was hoping for more depth on the earlier Greek, Roman and Byzantine history of the sites. Hagia Sophia in particular has such an extraordinary history spanning different civilizations and eras, but much of the discussion focused on the Ottoman period and more recent events. I found myself looking up quite a few things afterward because I wanted to better understand the earlier history and how all of those layers connected. I also came across a few details afterward that differed from what we had been told on the tour. One practical challenge was bathroom access, particularly for women. I recognize this is largely outside of the guide’s control, but it did affect the experience and would have been helpful to plan around. The sites themselves are absolutely worth seeing, and the tour provides a good introduction. I just would have appreciated a more balanced historical perspective across the different periods represented by them.
