We had an absolute GREAT whale watching excursion with Carl. He picked us up right near the dock when we got off our ship and took to Auke Bay. We saw countless bald eagles, probably at least 10 whales, even saw one completely breech out of the water. It was amazing! And we were up close and personal with handful of sea lions. We didn't want to be one of 30-50 people on the bigger group excursions and being fighting to get a glimpse of a whale. While the private tour was slightly more per person, the benefit was definitely worth it. In my group, I have a few very inquisitive minds and I knew the one on one experience would be great for our family. We were able to ask lots of questions and Carl knew all of the answers. Jason was driver back and he was kind enough to drop us off at the Mendenhall Glacier/Nugget Falls and came back and picked us up and dropped us off at Tracy's King Crab Shack (the 2nd location, not near the ships). I can't say enough about how much we all enjoyed this experience and not having to share space with 50 others. Loved it! Customer service was top notch.

I went on this tour with family members who had never been to Alaska before and it far exceeded our expectations! Watching whales on a beautiful day and being surrounded by the Chilkat mountains was just breathtaking! Our guides were very knowledgeable and kind, making our experience on the water safe and extremely enjoyable. Doing this activity as a private tour was definitely the way to go! Our experience was geared towards our own preferences so we were able to watch whales and sea lions for quite a while. It was very entertaining! Do not miss out on booking this if you are looking for a special and unique whale watching experience. We had the most amazing time with Carl! Everything from the convenient ride from downtown Juneau to the docks, the comfortable seating on the boat, snacks, music and good conversation, we can't say enough good things about our time. We watched MANY 'whale watching' boats go by packed with 40-50 people, it seemed it would be challenging to catch a glimpse of anything. Having the whole boat to ourselves was such a treat, we had the freedom to move around the cabin and the boat the entire time to see everything as clear as possible. Carl knew exactly where to take us to see the most whales possible. He explained what to look out for, would call out whales when he saw them and was totally on top of getting us the best views possible and navigated the waters expertly. We even got an added bonus of having an extremely up close experience with some sea lions. It was so amazing to see so much nature in just one afternoon. You will not get the same value in the tourist targeted boat rides - Do yourself a favor and give this small owned business a chance, they will not disappoint!
