Great memories

We arrived in Marseille via cruise ship in early April 2026. We are a family of four with 2 boys (11 years and 14 years old) and despite being an active family we did not have a lot of experience riding bikes (and no experience with e-bikes). Two women joined our tour however ended up not progressing as they did not feel confident to ride. Hank our guide was helpful and made sure we were all set up and provided us an overview of the day. At times it was a little daunting riding on the road, dodging pedestrians, navigating hills, and cars however once out on the Calanques it was beautiful. Overall the day was enjoyable and we have some great memories and some near misses ;-) We feel like we covered alot of ground/attractions and Hank provided us with alot of knowledge about the area. Transportation provided from the port was efficient and I feel the tour was fairly good value for money. The distance/length was really manageable for us however I would caution those who don't feel comfortable riding in traffic (despite the locals being very accommodating to us tourists on the road).

Misleading and disappointing

**People from the U.S. — Please Read Before Booking This Tour** If you are booking this as a shore excursion before your cruise’s all-aboard time, timing is absolutely critical. What sounds like a fun excursion can quickly become very stressful and risky. First, this tour is **not suitable for casual or occasional bike riders**. You will be riding alongside cars on very narrow roads, with long uphill climbs and steep downhill sections. The description saying “average fitness required” is misleading. In reality, this is closer to an endurance activity for people who bike regularly or train frequently. I consider myself reasonably fit, but I was exhausted after only two hours. We arrived at the designated pickup spot on time, and the pickup instructions were clear. However, our group was combined with passengers from another cruise ship who arrived **1.5 hours late**. We waited because our guide, Henk, assured us there was still enough time and that we would not miss any part of the excursion. Unfortunately, the tour started 1.5 hours behind schedule. After about two hours of riding, we only reached Notre Dame. At that point, we were told we would not make it to the Calanque — which was the main highlight of the tour for me — because I was allegedly “too slow.” The proposed solution was simply to drive us back to the port from Notre Dame. No alternatives or compensation were initially offered. I honestly do not believe this tour can realistically be completed within the advertised 5-hour timeframe, especially with breaks and varying rider abilities. We tried contacting Emanuel, the operator, but even the guide struggled to reach him because of poor phone reception. When I finally spoke with him, I suggested a reasonable compromise: since the tour had already started 1.5 hours late and one of the bikes had a puncture, perhaps we could be driven to the Calanque and then returned to port by car. He refused and blamed me for delaying the tour by “two hours,” even though the guide himself stated it was closer to 15 minutes. Importantly, the other members of the group did not feel I was excessively slow. Several actually believed I was being unfairly blamed for delays caused by poor planning from the operator. As someone who does not bike daily and was trying to ride safely on roads with no bike lanes while cars sped past, I did not think riding slightly slower was unreasonable. What shocked me most was Emanuel’s attitude. He told me he did not care about my experience because I was “leaving anyway,” then effectively abandoned us during a prepaid excursion in a foreign country. It took several minutes for the reality to sink in that we might miss our cruise because of this situation. To make matters worse, my brother’s bike also got a puncture and required pickup assistance. Once it became clear we would receive no help from the operator, we arranged taxis ourselves, managed to visit the park independently, and returned to the cruise port on our own. Eventually, our money was refunded before I filed a dispute through Viator, but the experience was still extremely stressful and disappointing. What should have been a memorable excursion nearly ruined our trip and created unnecessary anxiety, extra costs, and logistical problems. After this experience, the overwhelmingly glowing reviews for this operator no longer felt believable to me.

Madam, From the very beginning, you showed serious difficulty handling a bicycle, even attempting to brake with your feet. Despite our remarks, you insisted on continuing the activity. On several occasions, we offered a safe solution by arranging to pick you up. You refused, stating “I paid, I want to see the Calanques,” while also threatening to leave a negative review. Given the situation and for obvious safety reasons, we asked you to leave the group. It is sometimes better to acknowledge when one’s level is not suited to this type of tour, rather than placing responsibility on the organization. In hindsight, our only mistake was not being firm enough from the start. We also remind you that, according to our terms and conditions, no refund was due. Nevertheless, it was granted as a commercial gesture. We always do our best for our clients and have no concern about reviews that do not reflect the reality of our commitment. Kind regards, Emmanuel

Not for the Faint-hearted Electric Bike Ride

Although we enjoyed seeing the beautiful sites in Marseille and hearing about the culture, economic conditions and the history of the area, the Electric Bike Ride itself was, at times, uncomfortable. We literally rode our bikes alongside heavy traffic due to a limited number of bike lanes. Tourists are not paying attention to their whereabouts all the time, so you also need to navigate around them to remain safe. We would have preferred a shorter excursion riding through parks than the route the tour guide took us.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I'm not sure if the aspects we can't change warrant this rating. Your guide would have liked to take you through the parks and gardens in addition to Borely Park (which you visited), but your cycling ability slowed the group down. Therefore, your guide couldn't make some of the usual detours.

Amazing tour of beautiful Marseille, absolute must do for cruise passengers!

Great way for cruise passengers to see as much as possible in a short amount of time. The tour was very well organised from the port pick up and drop off to our fantastic guide Cindy who had great local knowledge. She took us to the most delicious bakery to buy our picnic lunch which we ate in the most stunning location in the Calanques national park.

E bike tour with Stefan

Marseille is a busy, hilly town to bike. The bikes give were good. The guide, Stefan had no patience. He was going way too fast for our group. We could keep up but others in group not so much . One lady fell 3 times and another had two flats . Stefan was frustrated but some of this could have been prevented with better instruction and empathy for all in group. Stefan kept asking if we had any questions but never offered much information - as a guide he should have been the one telling us about sights not us asking him .

Hello, The day of the excursion was a bit unusual, as a large part of the seaside was reserved for a charity run. Your guide had to go inland. That said, we are surprised by your comments about his attitude, as we have never had any complaints about it. We will ask Stéphane about this. We are, in any case, sorry that you didn't enjoy the e-bike ride.

This was an amazing...

This was an amazing biking tour through the streets of Marseille as well as along the coast. Our guide, Stefan, had great knowledge about the history as well as how to navigate the streets of the city. We enjoyed amazing views, learned about the city and enjoyed lunch from a local bakery.

Great 6 hours seeing Marseille!

Cindy was excellent, getting us around and giving us neat and interesting bits of information. The e-bikes are the way to go, letting different people in your party use as little or as much effort as they want, and they definitely helped going up the steep hill to Notre Dame!

Hello, i am so sorry about all happened. An unpredictible traffic jam at the entrance of the port made the pick ups crazy. I came several times but i missed you and others guests was there waiting as well and went into the van. You finaly decided to cancel before i come because waiting was too long and you maybe were right... but maybe wrong as you decided to quit before i get a chance to make your day enjoyable. First 1 star of the year. Hope the last. We always do our best.
