Mezquita Azul
Santa Sofía, oficialmente la Gran Mezquita de Santa Sofía, es una mezquita y un importante sitio cultural e histórico en Estambul, Turquía. Antiguamente fue iglesia (360-1453) y museo (1935-2020). El último de los tres edificios eclesiásticos que fueron erigidos sucesivamente en el lugar por el Imperio Romano de Oriente, se completó en el año 537 d.C., convirtiéndose en el espacio interior más grande del mundo y entre los primeros en emplear una cúpula totalmente pendenciera. Se considera el epítome de la arquitectura bizantina y se dice que "cambió la historia de la arquitectura". Desde su dedicación en 360 hasta 1453 Santa Sofía sirvió como catedral de Constantinopla en la tradición litúrgica bizantina, excepto por el período 1204-1261 cuando los cruzados latinos instalaron su propia jerarquía. Después de la caída de Constantinopla en 1453, sirvió como mezquita, añadiéndose sus minaretes poco después. El sitio se convirtió en museo en 1935, y fue redesignado como mezquita en 2020.
