Allí nos detendremos en el Ayuntamiento de Pietermaritzburg, que dice ser el edificio de ladrillo más grande del hemisferio sur. Allí visitaremos la estatua de Gandhi también antes de dirigirnos hacia las montañas Drakensberg. Kamberg Cave Art está a 90 minutos a pie y a pie desde el campamento base. Nuestro destino es el magnífico Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO, la cordillera Drakensberg. La Reserva Natural de Kamberg se creó en 1951 debido a su belleza natural única, la vida silvestre y los sitios históricos de rocas rupestres. La reserva tiene más de 6200 hectors de montañas y valles profundos con una extensa red de caminatas y senderos. El sitio de arte de Rock to the Caves está a más de 60 minutos de duración del campamento y requiere un nivel promedio de condición física para completar. El paisaje natural tiene muchos refugios rocosos, que contienen pinturas rupestres de San. Estos fueron creados por el pueblo San durante un período de al menos 4000 años. Mirando hacia el oeste, la impresionante escultura crea un paisaje único y hermoso para la comunidad local de Howick. El museo está dedicado a la vida de Nelson Mandela y su lucha contra el gobierno del apartheid.
La siguiente parada será la pequeña ciudad de Howick para visitar su cascada. KwaNogqaza o Howick Falls tiene aproximadamente 95 m de altura y se encuentra en el río Umgeni. Los zulúes locales lo llamaron el "Hogar de los Altos" en referencia a su altura. Junto a las cataratas se encuentra una sección antigua y pintoresca de Howick que tiene una selección de museos históricos y tiendas de antigüedades para visitar.

The guide Bule was great, super helpful and gave me many explanations. I am very happy with my experience and I would much recommend!
It was day full of adventures! From hiking up a mountain to refreshing sound of the waterfall. Bring lunch with you as you enjoy eating while on a scenic drive. Bule and Promise ( tour guides ) were amazing.
I did this tour with my best friend in March 2026 and enjoyed every bit. We especially love that they work with local people who know the area. Our driver, Buleh, was funny, considerate, and safe. He took great care of us and the long drive went by quickly because of the good conversation (and amapiano ;)). He has a natural sense for people and what they might need. It was also a treasure having Promise from the Kamberg Rock Art Centre show us around on the hike up to the San paintings. It's really nice to see 1st Zulu Safaris working with them, especially as I understand not many tour operators use the Kamberg guides when they do tours in the region. Overall, it was a long, tiring day, but worth it!
The day was full of experiences. Architecture, nature, hiking, waterfall, museum, history and ancient art - very varied program. You will be pleasantly tired by the end of the day and say 'It was worth doing it'. Not a lazy day:-). You go back 4 000 years in time... The cave paintings were the highlights of the day. Sotiris, our guide was helpful, informative and provided a pleasant day for us. We have good memories. Recommended.
Great, interesting. It's a pretty demanding one and a half hour climb up to the rock paintings, but you can go at your own pace. The area was pretty brown because it was almost winter, but that valley is very beautiful with green grass and flowers in the summertime.

A day tour with Fortune, who is very nice. Prepare for a long drive around 3.5hr to the mountain, but worthwhile. It is better to have the game pass with guide, so that you can go to the top and get some instructions on plants and culture. The museum at Mandela Capture site is beyond expectation, with clear history of ANC and Mandela, etc.

This tour is an amazing experience from start to finish! Our guide, Thami, is polite, warm, and enthusiastic. He arrives early for pick-up and provides detailed explanations at every stop. What stands out the most is his respectful and patient approach—he doesn’t ask personal questions and makes sure everyone feels comfortable throughout the journey without hesitation in providing assistance. The itinerary is well-planned, with a smooth flow between sites and well-timed stops. Even on weekends, there are no issues with site closures, making the trip hassle-free. This tour is highly recommended for history and nature lovers, offering a perfect blend of cultural significance and breathtaking landscapes. However, be prepared for nearly three hours of hiking in total.

Mandela capture site is well worth a visit. The drakensburg park is beautiful but the treck is not for the less able or older people
