Incredible cultural experience. Treated like dignitaries , snacks and drinks were incredible and the traditional dance was awesome. We were greater with refreshing drinks and a cool cloth. Highly recommend.
It was an interesting event but a little different than I expected. We motored upstream for about a half hour and then floated back down to where we started. There were a lot of boats doing the same thing but it wasn't crowded at all. The sunset was beautiful as described and I met some really wonderful people on the cruise, with the captain being one of them. All of the boats have diesel engines in them which vibrate a lot and are a little noisy. It didn't take me long to figure out that going to the front of the boat and away from the engine made it much more enjoyable.
The traditional dance, music, and snack plate of Laotian food were excellent. It was a very relaxing way to spend a few hours. The scenery along the Mekon River was breathtaking. It would be perfect if there was an English speaking guide to give us a bit of history about the Laotian culture and the town of Luang Prabang. It also took a bit of effort to locate the boat but everyone in that area was so very helpful in helping us! The Laotians are incredibly friendly people.
We were welcomed on the boat with a cool refreshing drink. The boat ride had live music and traditional dancing for entertainment. We were told to arrive at 4pm so I was concerned we would get less time than the allocated two hours but we set off at 4.30pm and docked back in at 18:30. All in all a fantastic experience and one which I would highly recommend!
