Un pequeño pueblo único a orillas del río Mekong. Ban Xang Hai, también conocido como pueblo de whisky, es famoso por sus productos artesanales como destilar y vender whisky, tela tejida a mano y joyas.
Estas dos cuevas se encuentran a unos 25 km de Luang Prabang, donde el río Nam Ou desemboca en el Mekingo. El viaje en un bote largo de movimiento lento a las cuevas es sin duda pintoresco. Autobuses río arriba se puede ver a los lugareños pescar y escuchar la risa alegre de los niños chapoteando en el agua. Las cuevas son veneradas en toda Laos y un lugar muy popular para turistas y peregrinos. Hay unas 4000 estatuillas en las cuevas, la mayoría de Buda, muchas cubiertas de papel fino dorado. A la primera cueva se llega por una empinada escalera desde el borde del río, mientras que la segunda cueva está un poco más profunda dentro de la montaña: ¡trae una antorcha!
Las cataratas Kuang Si, a veces escritas Kuang Xi o conocidas como cascadas Tat Kuang Si, son una cascada de tres niveles a unos 29 kilómetros al sur de Luang Prabang. Al llegar a las cataratas, relájese y disfrute del magnífico entorno natural. El agua cae y cae en cascada suavemente en varias piscinas frescas y claras donde puede disfrutar de un refrescante baño. Los aventureros pueden caminar hasta la cima de las cataratas a través de una pista empinada donde les esperan impresionantes vistas. Las cascadas de Kuang Si también son un lugar donde se encuentra un centro de rescate para proteger a los osos solares, la especie en peligro de extinción.

Started with a pick up from my hotel. We went to see the falls, which are very nice. Lunch (buffet) was at a very good restaurant with surprisingly good food. There were very well behaved elephants that we could feed. Next was the caves and finally a cruise down the Mekong River back to Luang Prabang. A day well spent.

Taking a cruise on the Mekong River is a good activity to discover the wild shores to the caves of Pak Ou and also it allows to take a break on the temple tours that are numerous in and around Luang Prabang. There were only 3 of us on the boat and we had the pleasure of enjoying an excellent meal. Apart from visiting the caves , we also discovered a village with its alcohol production , weaving workshops and an area of small temples dedicated to the local population
