Not what we expected

There was not really space upstairs to stand and definitely no place to sit upstairs. I didn’t realize that the boat could hold 325 people. It was crowded, loud and noisy. The audio guide could be downloaded on the Internet, but it was hard to hear it with how much noise everyone was making. It was too crowded to get seats by the window, so we were seated in the middle of the boat. Not the best experience. If I had done more research, I would’ve picked a smaller boat and one where we could sit upstairs outside.

Ran smoothly but...

Ran smoothly but. Boat quite wide and no outside seating so had to stand for best views and even then everyone behind wheelhouse so only 180 degree view. Were booked most expensive time for cruise (just before official sunset) but would recommend waiting till full night as most buildings not lit yet. Had to download text-to-speech commentary on phone app.

Would have preferred a different boat, and I wish I booked directly

My wife and daughter liked this, but I have to say that I was not particularly impressed. Here's what was good and what was lacking. The good: 1. We went at twilight, right as the sun was going down, which made for good pictures - and everything lights up after dark, which was beautiful. 2. There is a downloadable guide that goes along with the tour and there is a screen up above on the boat that tells you what things are and a fun fact or two about them (remember Pop-Up Video? kinda like that). The not-so-good: 1. This tour is run by Purpleliner, not Viator - if I did it again, I would just book tickets with Purpleliner (why do I keep booking tickets with Viator?!) 2. The boat is enclosed - big windows all around, but a full ceiling. I had envisioned an open-air cruise, and this was definitely not that - you could only see out the windows near you, and it was hot and stuffy inside. You could go outside and stand on the back deck with all the smokers, but that was pretty crowded and like I said, standing only - plus: no Pop-Up Video up there. 3. The directions were correct (the written directions) but the indicator on the map was in the wrong place. If they just said: "follow the signage for Purpleliner because that's what this is" that would have made it easier for everyone. So bottom line: I would recommend a cruise on the Danube at that time of day, and maybe even with Purpleliner - but I would look for an open-air boat and book directly... not through Viator.

Must do in Budapest

The experience was very cool, however, I was with two friends and I was completely ignored by the guide when checking in. I had to turn to someone else to do it. Other than that, a very nice walk.
