Kawika D, was our tour guide and he was great !! A real historian, and not only did he filled us with Hawaiian knowledge, he was able to answer all our questions. Because of Lala our trip was modified (didn't get to see Punalu'u Beach or the coffee farm, and only some of Volcano national park; at least that was open at all, as it was the most important part of the trip for me). Kawika kept us informed the whole trip, which was, for me, the second most important part. I wanted to learn the history and details only a knowledgable tour guide could bring. That's why I booked it, instead of driving to these sights myself. One of my other favorite parts was eating lunch at the Hilo farmer's market. I was glad the part where where we were going to eat was closed, as this was much better...and thanks to Kawika reco, we bought some amazing shave ice at local store right there (my wife and I split a POG flavored one). My one nitpick might be choosing to stop at the Big Island Candy store. I know it was a last minute replacement, but every other stop was historical/sightseeing, this is just a big candy store. I would have rather had more time at the farmer's market in Hilo. Special thanks to those that kept us informed of the changes, and just making it possible with all the Lala devastation on the south side of the island...so sad.
Great time. Our guide was knowable and had a sense of humor. He gave enough info about current culture mixed with history. . Saw most of what we wanted to see. lunch left a little to be desired. The chicken was ok. A little dry. The small piece of fish very dry the purple sweet potato unseasoned. All lukewarm Would almost rather have had a sandwich.
Mia was so friendly and informative. Had a very good time and learned a lot about the island.
Mia was great. She was informative and kind. Due to the recent hurricane our itinerary changes slightly. We were lucky and the skies were clear at the volcano!
Our trip had to be altered due to LaLa. A lot of the Hawaiian/National Parks were closed to tourists which we understood. Drea B. did a great job of adding different activities to supplement the areas that were closed. We did not get to see the Volcanos but did get a good history about them. Dreu kept the trip fun as he told us about the different areas of the island. He can be our guide anytime. Personable with everyone in the group and included everyone in his questions about places that we had been to and were going to. Thanks Dreu until we meet again. And remember Dreu, Dale and Mary's Volcano did erupt while we were there!
Mia was our guide and she was amazing! The entire trip was smooth and quite perfect. Bolstered by the fact we had a well mannered and friendly group, we were able to get through the entire set of stops in about 12 hours, without feeling rushed or like we were missing out. There was about 12 of us total so we had a seat or two extra on the bus, the catered food was fantastic, and Mia had extra snacks, drinks, and no shortage of history or stories. For the money, the excursion is a no brainer.
This was our second time doing a full-island tour with this company and we had an unbelievably great experience yet again…Special recognition to our tour guide Thia, who apparently just joined Wasabi and was both incredibly knowledgeable and friendly the entire 11 hour journey…Super informative and well orchestrated, the trip brought some new adventures/locations to the last time we joined — thanks to the recent hurricane Lala that hit southern Hawaii very hard — and so we got some new and exciting experiences. As a special bonus, the Kilauea volcano happened to be erupting (having an “episode”, # 54 to be exact), which was a real treat to witness in person…Can’t say enough good things about Thia and Wasabi tours…Planning on doing it a 3rd time next time we return…
Our adventure with Lead Guide, Dreu B, was exceptional!!! Even though we were unable to visit the Volcano National Park due to upcoming storm, he improvised and organized an extra stop, which was phenomenal! Not only was his historical knowledge of the area amazing, his presentation was fun and captured our attention!
Experience of a lifetime….crew was helpful and professional . The rays put of an amazing show! A must when visiting Kona.
Had a great time! Mia was our guide and she knew so much about the island and gave us a lot of good history :)
