Hoy visitaremos el este de Chipre. Tenemos muchos lugares de interés en nuestro programa, ya que Famagusta es una de las ciudades históricas que se pueden ver por tiempo limitado mientras se encuentra en Chipre. El Monasterio de San Bernabé será nuestra primera parada del día. Cuando regresó a Chipre y mientras difundía el cristianismo lo que le había sucedido. Escuchará todo sobre la historia de su guía mientras conduce a la antigua ciudad de Salamina. Donde verá el teatro, letrinas, gymansium y otros lugares de interés. Famagusta es una ciudad medieval con restos de culturas históricas. Verá la Catedral de San Nicolás, el Palacio Veneciano, que son algunos de los lugares de interés que están incluidos en el programa. No podemos regresar sin ver el Pueblo Fantasma. ¿Hay fantasmas alrededor? Espera a que te lo cuente tu guía. Hoy comenzaremos nuestro día conduciendo hacia el noreste de la isla. Nuestra primera parada del día será el Monasterio de San Bernabé y el Museo de Iconos. Bernabé era judío y para sus estudios superiores fue a Jerusalén. Cuando el cristianismo se estaba extendiendo, creyó en el cristianismo y regresó a Chipre y comenzó a difundir la religión. Había gente en contra de sus ideas, mataron a Bernabé, pero los creyentes que se habían convertido al cristianismo lo enterraron en una cueva debajo de un algarrobo, pero los creyentes fueron perseguidos hasta Egipto y nadie supo dónde estaba enterrado durante décadas. ¿Cómo encontraron su tumba? Nuestra siguiente parada del día serán las ruinas de Salamina. La mítica fundación de Salamina se remonta al 11 a. C. El héroe de la guerra de Troya, Teucro, fue expulsado de la isla griega de Salamina por no cuidar de su medio hermano Ajax, que había muerto durante la guerra. Navegó hasta Chipre y se estableció aquí y nombró al Reino como Salamina. Visitará el gimnasio, el teatro, los baños romanos y su guía le contará más sobre Salamina.
La ciudad estaba rodeada de murallas por lusignanos. Más tarde se hicieron adiciones durante los venecianos. Hay muchos lugares de interés histórico que quedan de muchas herencias que habían pasado por Chipre. Muchos de ellos los verás hoy mientras das un paseo por esta ciudad medieval.
Fue construida por Lusignans como catedral en 1298-1312. Fue nombrada Catedral de San Nicolás y es una de las catedrales más bonitas de estilo gótico. Fueron coronados como reyes de Jerusalén durante muchos años. Cuando los otomanos se apoderaron de la isla, agregaron un minarete y lo convirtieron en una mezquita. Hoy en día todavía se utiliza como mezquita. El lugar fue nombrado primero como Ayasofya y luego se cambió a Mezquita Lala Mustafa Pasha. El árbol 'Ficous Sycomorus' que está plantado en el costado de esta increíble arquitectura gótica se remonta a 1299.
Durante la época otomana, Famagusta se utilizó como lugar de excitación para muchas personas. Namık Kemal, el escritor estaba en contra del sultán, por lo que fue encarcelado en Famagusta y permaneció 38 meses. En este recorrido, su guía le contará mucho más sobre él y sobre sus libros. Su prisión se encuentra dentro del palacio veneciano. También tiene una estatua justo enfrente de la plaza que lleva su nombre. La estatua fue reemplazada en 1953. Su guía local le contará mucho más.
Una vez este lugar se conocía como Varosha. Hermosas casas, hoteles, llenos de turistas y mucho más estaba sucediendo. Se abundó en 1974 y después de 46 reabrió. Su guía le indicará todo el lugar mientras camina por la zona.

I was in Cyprus again as I had to visit the places that I had missed on my last tip. As I was so pleased with Sirin Suha on my last visit I made all the arrangements with her again. We had a great time together. She was punctual, told us about the history of the historical sites and at the end she took us to a local restaurant where we had the local lunch. If you are going to visit Cyprus, I highly recommend Sirin Suha's tours.

I joined the "Famagusta" tour and the "Divided City Capital tour" on 25th November. Sirin is a beautiful lady, she really knows a lot about the places, of the stroll of Varosha, even it's with a bit of drizzle, she tells what she sees along the way - the dilpilated residences, the shopfronts - the sights just leave you with a sad and undescribable meaning. During the trip, I also get to see lots of churches along the way, which you know more about the history of the place! Of the Nicosia tour, one of the most lovely and reflective things I get to see were the graffitis. Sirin has a great sense of humour, snd don't be hesitant to ssk her questions, she really really expresses her viewpoints clearly no matter what, and that's really great way to keep the energy flowing! Thank you Sirin! 😊

Famagusta was unforgettable. The city’s rich and at times heavy past came through clearly thanks to the way Şirin guided us with honesty, clarity, and a strong sense of respect.
