Our family enjoyed having transportation arranged from the cruise terminal rather than trying to figure everything out ourselves. The vehicle was comfortable and made moving between different parts of Helsinki much easier. The guide was friendly and explained the sights in a way that kept both adults and children interested. We especially liked the opportunity to have some free time in the city center for photos and a little independent exploring. The return arrangement was another positive for us because being back at the ship on time was essential.
This tour was supposed to start at 8 in the morning and go approximately 4 hours. Received a message that the time was changed to meet at 0845 and no later than 0900 The guide and bus were both late and we were left standing in the rain being told by guide bus was coming. She seemed confused and kept telling us the bus was on it’s way first ten then five then two minutes and still no bus. The bus finally did show up and we were on our way. The first stop was Sibelius park for the tube statue to some composer. She tried to talk us out of second stop which was Helsinki Olympic stadium which we did stop for pics. The third stop was some Odio library that wasn’t even listed on the itinerary. We wasted our time viewing the library. Then she took us to train station to show us Finnish underground again not on the itinerary. We never stopped at Parliament of Finland 20 min. We never saw Presidential place again 20 min. The three things I booked to se we never saw. The first being Temppeliaukio Church this church carved into the stone and then given a copper roof. We were supposed to spend 30 min there never saw it. We were supposed to see a statue at a square called Havis Amanda 15 min for pics. Never saw that either. The last stop was supposed to be Hakaniemi Market Square for 45 min to immerse in the Finnish culture. Several other people had the same itinerary. When I confronted the guide about going to see the Stone Church, Havis Amanda statue and Hakaniemi Market Square she said it was not on her itinerary given to her by company. The only reason I booked this tour was to see the Stone Church. The trip was supposed to last approximately four hours. She had us back at ship in about a little over three hours. I was very disappointed. This was the fifth of sixth bookings I made this trip. The first four were great experiences. The Helsinki was a big disappointment especially because I did not get to see The Stone Church Temppeliaukio Church and Havis Amanda. I just wanted the tour to follow the seven stops as advertised. We had been having a great trip with our Viator outings. This one really disappointed me. I also checked with other travelers and they had same itinerary.
We regret to hear that our tour did not meet your expectations. Please allow us to address the concerns raised: 1. The Meeting and Pickup section of the tour description clearly states: “The tour’s start time is approximate and may be customized for each date to align with the arrival of docking ships. You will receive the exact pickup time as the date approaches.” 2. The Additional Information section clearly states: “Please note that the sequence of the tour itinerary and the time spent at each location may be adjusted in response to variables such as traffic conditions, crowd sizes, and unforeseen events. However, we will do our best to cover all destinations mentioned in the itinerary.” 3. The Additional Information section also clearly states: “Please note that Temppeliaukio Church may be closed on Sundays and on certain other dates due to private events.” 4. Please do not refer to other tour participants unless you officially represent them. Your complaint and refund request, which we respectfully declined, were the only ones received from the entire group participating on Sunday, July 26. When booking future activities through Viator, we strongly recommend basing your expectations on the published tour description rather than on personal assumptions. Safe travels!
I often travel for work and value tours that stay organized and respect the schedule. Everything from pickup to drop-off ran smoothly. The guide was professional and informative without overwhelming the group with unnecessary details. The city itself was beautiful, and the free time allowed me to explore a few streets at my own pace before meeting everyone again. The guaranteed return to the ship gave me peace of mind. Overall, a very well-managed excursion.
The sites we saw were good, but our guide and bus driver didn’t have a clear understanding of the program we paid for. We almost missed the Rock Church until I showed him MY itinerary for the day. He also shared too many personal stories and not enough historical facts and information.
This tour was very unorganized - the itinerary didn’t match between the guests and the guide had a different points of interest. We eventually hit everything - but riding in a 15 passenger van on cobblestone streets was miserable. The guide would talk about structures but you couldn’t see them from inside the van. Unless they change this to a walking tour - I’d skip.
Thank you for confirming that all the sites mentioned in the itinerary were covered. Cobblestone streets exist in major medieval cities throughout Europe. Unfortunately, we do not use helicopters to avoid them—at least not yet. This is not a walking tour; however, some walking is naturally required to reach certain sites and return to the parking area. When booking future activities, we strongly recommend basing your expectations on the published tour description, itinerary, and inclusions rather than on personal assumptions. As for the offensive reference to our city in the title of your review, it reflects more on the writer and his level of cultural awareness than on Helsinki. There is a well-known saying in your home country: what goes around comes around. Safe travels
My partner and I really enjoyed this experience. The combination of guided sightseeing and free time worked very well for us. The guide spoke excellent English and shared interesting facts about Finland along the way. The transportation was comfortable, and the schedule felt relaxed despite fitting quite a lot into four hours. We even had enough time to enjoy a snack in the city before returning. A pleasant introduction to Helsinki that suited cruise passengers perfectly.
A group of us booked this during our cruise stop and had a really pleasant experience. The guide was knowledgeable but kept the atmosphere relaxed and friendly. We saw the major landmarks, learned a lot about Finnish culture, and still had free time to grab coffee and wander around the center. Transportation was comfortable, and everything stayed on schedule. The optional church visit was worth considering if you enjoy architecture. Overall, a nice balance between sightseeing and personal time.
This was our first visit to Helsinki, and we thought the itinerary gave us a great overview of the city. The guide shared interesting local stories without making it feel like a lecture. We especially enjoyed strolling through the central streets during our free time and finding a cozy café. Pickup from the cruise port was smooth, and we never worried about getting back late because everything was carefully planned. It felt like a relaxing way to spend the day together.
Traveling with our family, we wanted something comfortable without feeling rushed, and this tour delivered exactly that. Pickup at the cruise terminal was well organized, and the vehicle was clean and comfortable. Our guide explained the city's history in a way that even our teenagers found interesting. We had enough stops for photos and enjoyed walking through the city center during the free time. It never felt like we were being hurried from place to place. We appreciated returning to the ship well before departure, which made the whole experience stress-free. A very enjoyable family day.
Good overview of important sites in Helsinki. Library was an unexpected pleasure to behold. Terrific
