Wonderful experience. Loved Mont St Michel and Saint Malo was a great surprise. Our guide Doro was a delight and so knowledgeable.
We really enjoyed this trip to Normandy and Brittany from Paris, because we weren’t interested in going to WWII sites and we had already decided against going to The Loire or Burgandy because our group wasn’t very wine-interested. Doru’s tour offered a beautiful, exciting adventure without the work for arranging things ourselves. Doru offered a historical view on medieval France and Europe on the car ride from Paris to Mount St. Michel, then gave us a nice amount of free time to explore without crowding us. From there, St. Malo was a short car ride away, and the tour arranged great hotel accommodations in the heart of the walled old city. We found dinner at a local establishment that had amazing seafood, and we explored the old town that evening before Doru took us around the next morning. Overall, the drive time is 4 hours there and 4 hours back, so be prepared for that, but Doru made it worthwhile with great conversation about France, history, and modern Europe! What a great time. The sites themselves are not places that require a great deal of tour-guide help, but they all difficult to get to without a car, and we felt we got a great value for 6 people to get around with a tour, rather than going the DIY approach. Overall, I’d describe the trip as exactly what we needed: a good car ride managed by a professional driver who loves history and knows when to give the group space and when to play a guiding role. If you’re looking to get out of Paris for a few days, this is a great choice! A few details we wanted to know ahead of time, that I figure others will appreciate: - we departed 8a; arrived back by 7pm - We had flexibility of exactly when we left Saint Malo back to Paris - The hotel was 3-star hotel with very nice rooms and a local feel. The breakfast was one of the nicer hotel breakfasts we’ve had. (Although I expect the guide has to use different hotels depending on what’s going on) - Lunch at Mont St. Michel is probably best done as a picnic lunch, and there are plenty of vendors to buy from.
Tour guide Doru Oprea was excellent - very personable, knowledgeable, and accomodating. We had a great time.
Thanks a lot, it was a pleasure :)
