Mo was an excellent guide and provided lots of information on Yellowknife. The Aurora lights were amazing, would definitely go again.
Thanks for sharing your experiences and giving us the opportunity to create happy memories.
Had an amazing experience with Mo for our Aurora tour! He was super accommodating and flexible — even picked me up directly from the airport so I didn’t miss the chance to see the northern lights. He really took care of the group and made sure we had the best possible opportunities to catch the Aurora. You can tell he genuinely wants everyone to have a great experience. Thank you, Mo! Highly recommend his services to anyone looking for an Aurora tour done in comfort and style in Yellowknife.
Thanks for letting us create a memoriable experience for you.
We had an incredible time ice fishing in Yellowknife! The entire experience was seamless and highly educational. The staff provided a very detailed introduction to the process, making it both fun and informative for everyone. The highlight was definitely the freshly grilled fish—it was absolutely delicious and the perfect way to end the activity. A special thank you to Sai, who was incredibly attentive and helpful throughout the entire process. His care and professional service made our trip even more memorable. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Yellowknife!"

Unreal views of the Aurora. Our tour guide Mo was awesome and helped us take incredible pictures too!

The four of us enjoyed some aspects of our tour. Moe, our driver and guide, was engaging, though, while he was driving, his primary attention was on the driving, so less on describing what was happening. That's one complaint: tours with a separate driver and guide allow the guide to talk and answer questions while the driver focuses on driving. We did a couple of those tours while in Yellowknife and enjoyed that aspect of them more than this tour. And then there's the "Aurora Lodge". It was a negative for all of us. It's a fairly typical vacation house with a balcony. It was overly crowded - no doubt due to the lack of optimal conditions (not the host's fault) - but a detractor, nonetheless. Had conditions been better - better aurora action and visibility; a warmer night - fewer people would have been inside. But the conditions were what they were, and there were lots of people, making it somewhat hard to move around. Indoor lights were on making aurora gazing from indoors - and from the deck - impossible. When a tour provider offers a "lodge", and particularly on frigid nights, there ought to be some kind of hot beverage - hot cocoa, tea, whatever. Snacks would be nice. There were none. Then, there's the van. It was past its prime. The heater wasn't keeping up - neither for our cold extremities nor for the windshield, which was a bit worrying. At times, Moe's view of the road was a smallish hole in the frost. There was almost no traffic, so this wasn't hair-raising, but it wasn't comforting, either. And we spent what felt like a lot of time in that van. All that said, conditions change everything. A warmer night (it was around -31ºC/-24ºF) would have made standing under the sky more fun. When the aurora was very active and visible, Moe took truly great photos and videos, including the requisite shots of guests with the aurora as backdrop. Maybe, if conditions were better while we were at the lodge, more people would have been outdoors and the place would't have been so stuffed. Would I book with Destination NWT Ltd. again? Maybe. Maybe not.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. There are lots of snacks and hot beverages for everyone but it is all shelf service and you just have to go get them yourselves, since guides are usually there to do photos. The ground is over 7000 square meters. Lots of space to walk around. The viewing deck is about 200 square meters. The lodge is designed as warm location for people to wait to see the Aurora, there are some modern convenience such as washroom wifi and hot beverages.
A great experience with Mo. The cabin is a great way to go, with a good bathroom, hot hearth and easy access to a deck and the lakeside. Best of both worlds here.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. Aurora Lodge + Aurora Chasing is the best combination of comfort and seeing the northern lights.
The organization is very smooth. The guide Tina is very nice and experienced. She took lots of photos for us with professional camera. Because of cloud, we chased the aurora by bus first. Visited 2 lakes and saw very beautiful aurora. At last we went to the lodge where amazing aurora dancing was shown. We are do lucky! The lodge itself is very warm, and we enjoyed hot chocolate there. Strongly recommend this tour.
