Itinerary
Start your tour in the center of Kraków, admiring the beauty of the city along the way.
Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of the most precious and fascinating Polish monuments. The first tourist trail in Wieliczka was established as early as the beginning of the 19th century. A couple of centuries later the salt mine was designated as one of the first UNESCO World Heritage Sites (1978). The underground path leads through numerous drifts, galleries, and chambers, where traces of mining activity have been preserved, as well as examples of art, and theme compositions relating to the history of the mine and its legends. Wieliczka is the world's largest mining heritage museum... Moreover, the microclimate of the mine has a beneficial impact on visitors who suffer from asthma and allergies. The tour starts with a descent of 64 meters by stairs. You are then led through a number of chambers and shown underground lakes, shrines, and salt monuments. The trip finishes at the level of 135 meters below the surface and the return to the surface is by lift.
St. Kinga’s Chapel is a breathtaking underground sanctuary carved entirely from salt, located deep within the historic Wieliczka Salt Mine. Dedicated to Saint Kinga, this extraordinary space features intricate salt sculptures, crystal chandeliers, and detailed reliefs depicting biblical scenes. Both a place of worship and a masterpiece of craftsmanship, the chapel is considered one of the most remarkable highlights of the mine and a symbol of centuries-old mining heritage.
After you visit the Salt Mine and a day full of excitement, your driver will take you back to the center of Kraków (of course, if you’ve chosen the transport option ).

The chapel was amazing and 130 metres below ground. 9 floors of which 3 are open to the public. The remaining 6 will be filled with sand.
There is not many times I will give a 5 star rating However the salt mine is worth every star for the shear breath taking size of the place and the experience. I only gave a 4 for the audio, I explain later. Had a pickup which happily was close to our hotel, excellent starting guide with a 30 min bus trip to mine. By the way you can get to the mine by train from the main station of Glowney , however not sure how you get from station to mine the other end. Lots of steps down (300 or so ) all very good condition all in blocks of 8 steps descending in a well lite shaft. Too difficult to write up the whole experience, but at times breathtaking. I didn’t ask how far we walked but it must have been several Km’s so wear comfortable footwear. My only criticism is the audio system, a single earplug which was nye on impossible to hear the guide, at Auschwitz we were give a proper head set which fitted over my hearing aids.
Dear Traveler, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your detailed and thoughtful review with us! We are absolutely thrilled to receive your high praise and to know that the sheer, breathtaking scale of the Wieliczka Salt Mine earned a 5-star experience in your book. It is wonderful that the transport pick-up from your hotel went smoothly and that our starting guide looked after you well on the way to the mine. You are entirely correct about the walk—the route covers over 2 kilometers and features around 800 steps in total (starting with that grand descent down the Danilowicz Shaft!), so your advice to wear comfortable footwear is spot on! We also sincerely appreciate your constructive feedback regarding the audio system. We completely understand how important clear audio is, especially when using hearing aids. While the single-earpiece systems are standard equipment provided directly by the Salt Mine museum to all tour agencies, we take your accessibility feedback very seriously. We will certainly pass your comments along to the mine's management team so they can look into offering more inclusive headset options, similar to those used at Auschwitz. Thank you again for choosing to explore this spectacular underground wonder with us, and we hope to welcome you on another adventure in the future! The trip to and from the mine worked well. The arrangement left time to grab a coffee before starting. The steps and the walk in the mine were a work out. Our guide was knowledgeable and amusing.

Wonderful place to go and see. The whole tour was great from start to finish. Both Antoni and the guide at the salt mines were excellent. Would highly recommend using if doing this tour.
Thank you so much for sharing your feedback with us. We are absolutely delighted to hear that you had a great experience from start to finish on your tour to the Wieliczka Salt Mine! It is wonderful to know that you found the mine to be a wonderful place to visit and that both Antoni and your official mine guide provided excellent service throughout the day. We truly appreciate your high recommendation and are thrilled that everything went so smoothly for you. Thank you for choosing to explore this spectacular underground wonder with us, and we hope to welcome you on another adventure in the future. Kind Regards, Discover Cracow Team
Salt mine.... Everything, absolutely everything, is made of salt, including a church located 138 meters deep where statues and reproductions are all made of salt.... One of the strangest and most beautiful things I have ever seen in my life.... Absolutely recommended....
Thank you so much for sharing your feedback with us. We are absolutely thrilled to read your wonderful review and to hear that the Wieliczka Salt Mine left such an unforgettable impression on you. It is truly a magical place, and we are delighted that you found it to be one of the most unique and beautiful sights you have ever seen. As you beautifully pointed out, the fact that everything—including the spectacular St. Kinga’s Chapel located 131 meters underground, with its stunning statues, reliefs, and chandeliers—is carved entirely out of salt is what makes this location so breathtaking. We truly appreciate your enthusiastic recommendation to other travelers. Kind Regards, Discover Cracow Team
The organisation of the trip itself was poor. We were collected from our hotel 45 minutes before the coach departed for a journey that took 10 minutes maximum. The coach then took ages to depart as lots of people still had to pay for tickets to the Salt Mine. Once we arrived at the Salt Mine we were then told we had a 25 minute break. It took more than 2 hours from our pick up time before we entered the Mine. The coach was poor quality, we couldn’t hear the information as the tannoy system was so bad and the air conditioning was pathetic on a day where temperatures reached 35 degrees. Beware the trip information said a walk of 3,5km but we actually walked more than 4 miles!! The Salt Mine part of the trip was excellent - an informative and interesting guide. The chapel is amazing. The Salt Mine is definitely worth visiting but could be done by taxi and pre booking your entry tickets.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are truly sorry to hear that the transportation and organizational aspects of your trip did not meet your expectations, especially on a day with such high temperatures. We understand how frustrating it must have been to experience delays during the pick-up process, as well as the discomfort caused by the coach's inadequate air conditioning and audio system. Your comfort is very important to us, and we are addressing these logistics and vehicle issues with our team to ensure smoother operations. We also want to clarify that our official tour descriptions explicitly state the full physical requirements of the visit, including the fact that the route covers over 800 steps (with 380 right at the start) and involves a walk of up to 3.5 kilometers within the mine alone. When factoring in the walks to and from the transport vehicles and navigating the complex, the total distance is indeed longer, and we always aim to ensure our guests are fully prepared for this physical activity. We are, however, very glad that you found the Salt Mine itself excellent and that you enjoyed the amazing St. Kinga's Chapel along with the insights from your guide. We appreciate your review, as it helps us monitor and improve the overall quality of our service. Kind Regards, Discover Cracow Team
Very well organised and very knowledgeable guide. Would recommend to anyone wanting to see the salt mines. Communication was excellent.
First the good bits: excellent communication in advance, the coach was on time and there was space to sit together. At the salt mines we didn’t have to wait long to get in, and the physical structure of the mine is very impressive, plus the steps are very solid and stable and the temperature was much more moderate than expected. Unfortunately there are some big buts. You are not actually booking a tour with this company: just a coach transport and a pre-booked ticket on the general English-speaking salt mines museum tour. If we had booked that package independently a Bolt taxi each way would have been 35 x 2 zl plus family entry ticket of 397 zl (incl the English speaking guide), so 467 zl = about £94. We paid this company £181.95 for the three of us! Maybe you can justify that as a ‘tour’ price but this was not a tour package: when we got on the coach the ‘guide’, while lovely, told us she had only lived in Poland a couple of years, doesn’t speak the language and then gave us zero commentary for the rest of the journey - both there and on the return leg. A little surprisingly, as the journey ended she invited tips for her and the driver (I did not see anyone leave anything.) The salt mines guided tour that the group took was the exactly the same one you’d get if you booked direct at the museum as individuals and again, while lovely, the guide spoke non-stop in a heavy accent without giving much information of interest at all: she rushed us around, skipped past toilets despite people in the group needing to go, spoke the whole time we were walking and as we were such a large group we lost signal on the headsets unless we were in the front half of the group. Also, she didn’t give us even one chance to ask questions or make the tour interactive in the whole 2 hours. We didn’t even find out how the salt is extracted from the rock! Finally, another reason to not book with this tour company is that although it turned out that we all actually had individual general admission tickets (rather than a group tour ticket) which included entry to the museum, we were told our ‘tour’ didn’t include time for that and so we’d have to skip it and head straight back for the coach… and then had to wait 15 minutes for our bus ‘guide’ to show up and collect us to go back to the coach. So, although the salt mines are an impressive structure this tour was decidedly underwhelming and actually disappointing as I’d been really looking forward to it.
Dear Traveler, Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed and constructive feedback. We are glad to hear that our advance communication, punctuality, and the smooth, quick entry into the mine met your expectations, and that you found the physical structure of the Wieliczka Salt Mine impressive. However, we are genuinely sorry that the tour overall felt underwhelming and did not provide the value you expected for your family. We appreciate your transparency regarding the costs and would like to clarify how our service is structured, as well as address the specific issues you encountered. **Transport and Organization Value** As an agency, our pricing includes not just the museum admission and transport, but the complete organization, booking logistics, guaranteed timed entry slots (which often sell out weeks in advance), and the presence of a coordinator on board to handle all ticketing and entry procedures on-site. However, we completely understand your point regarding the pricing contrast versus booking independently, and we take your feedback on this value perception seriously. **The Role of Our Tour Leader** The staff member on the coach is a tour leader/coordinator rather than a licensed history guide. Their primary job is to ensure smooth logistics, headcounts, and ticketing. That being said, they absolutely should provide basic information and a welcoming commentary during the drive. We are sorry that this was missing from your trip, and we will address this with our coordination team to ensure our onboard staff are actively engaging with guests. **The Mine Guided Tour and Museum Section** Per the strict regulations of the Wieliczka Salt Mine, all visitors must be led exclusively by the mine's own authorized, official museum guides once underground. We have no direct control over the specific guide assigned by the mine, their individual pacing, or the quality of the museum's radio headset signal. However, your experience with the rushed pace, lack of bathroom breaks, and difficulty hearing due to the group size is definitely not the standard we expect for our guests. We will compile your feedback and formally submit it to the Wieliczka Salt Mine management so they can review the performance and group sizes of their official guiding staff. Regarding the underground museum section (the third hour of the route), our standard itineraries are optimized around the traditional 2-hour tourist route to ensure timely departures for the whole coach. We are sorry for the confusion regarding the ticket type and any frustration caused by having to wait for the coordinator at the end. Thank you again for your valuable insights. It is through honest reviews like yours that we can monitor the quality of our external partners and internal staff to improve the experience for future travelers. Wasn't informed 2 hours of walking involved and have to be relatively fit. Once in the chapel very very impressive
Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We are absolutely thrilled that you found the underground chapel to be very impressive! It truly is a breathtaking sight and a highlight of the experience. At the same time, we appreciate your honesty regarding the physical demands of the tour. We always want our guests to feel fully prepared for their journey, which is why we include detailed information in our product description regarding the extensive walking involved and the high number of steps. Additionally, we send a reminder the day before the tour explicitly advising guests to wear comfortable walking shoes for exactly this reason. We are sorry if this information was easy to miss, and we will look into ways to make these important physical requirements stand out even more prominently in our pre-tour communications. Thank you again for your valuable insights, and we are so glad that the beauty of the chapel made the journey worthwhile for you! Kind Regards, Discover Cracow Team
