The first stop on the tour, however, is always the Coliseum. You’ll learn more of the history of this incredible amphitheatre, why and how it was built and discover stories of the brutal spectacles that were staged there.
After the Coliseum, you’ll head to the Arch of Constantine, nearby, and take a walk to the Forum, the central square and the hub of Ancient Roman life. Around this ancient square are the ruins of the Temple of Julius Caesar, on the site of his cremation, the Arch of Titus, House of the Vestal Virgins, the Senate House, the Basilica of Maxentius, and much more. The ruins demonstrate the political, religious and social significance of the Forum in ancient times.
One of Rome’s most recognisable monuments of is Il Vittoriano; built in 1885 to honour King Victor Emmanuel II. This extraordinary marble structure is colloquially called the “Wedding Cake” by locals.
Not far from here is the Quirinal Palace, the official residence of the current Italian President.
The tour will move next to the renowned Trevi Fountain, a great example of the beauty of the Baroque period.
You will join the crowds at the Spanish Steps, wander to Piazza Navona where you can see Bernini’s great ‘Fountain of the Four Rivers’
and then you will stroll through the winding streets to the Pantheon, in Piazza della Rotunda. The Eternal City has so much to see, and with an expert guide you can be sure to experience the very best.

my grandson (23) and i had only a few hours in Rome Friday night and Saturday morning. i booked a 4 hour private tour for Saturday morning. Our guide was Max. He walked our legs off showing us the main sites and a couple we would have missed. THANK YOU, MAX! Max is delightful. speaks lovely English, obviously loves his city and is a historian on top of all that. emailing with the 'Claudia' team was easy. answered my questions immediately and helped me with my special request.
Tour guide was knowledgeable, friendly and fluent in English. Offered to alter tour based on sites we had already seen. We only had our two couples on the tour, which I’m not sure is the norm, but was wonderful. Would highly recommend our tour guide. Tour material (I.e., colosseum, etc.) was obviously awesome. On the more expensive end, but worth it.
Thomason was a wonderful guide who as an archeologist knew so much about the coliseum, duomo, Trevi fountain, but also took us to some beautiful churches that we did not know about. We ended at the Piazza Navona with the fountain of the four rivers which is amazing! Overall wonderful tour, I would highly recommend it.
