Versailles Tour

Not good for seniors. Was not able to see the palace. The gardens were first - nice, but too much time spent there. Our group split up between bikers and walkers. Cannot ride due to having only a 90-degree flexion of left knee. The guides went with the bikers and we were put in the care of a member of the group who was escorting her parents. We became separated, so we were on our own. Were lost, and kept walking. Turned out we walked all the way to the next stop, instead of taking the train because we had no idea where we were. Finally made our way to a train stop. They demanded we pay 5 Euros each. No big deal, because we were totally out of energy. Saw our group across the parking lot. Hailed him down, and he was glad to see us and offered to pay the train fare, and for us to rejoin the tour. We were too exhausted and in too much pain to accept the offer, so left and returned to Paris The only reason I spent the money for the train to Versailles, the hotel, and the tour, was to see the Hall of Mirrors. I will never have this opportunity again. Will always be a regret of my life. So neat and yet so far.

Operator response

Dear Carol, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We were genuinely saddened to read your review, especially because we were equally concerned when we became separated during the tour. Out of respect for the detailed account you provided, we would like to offer some additional context regarding your experience. Regarding the time spent in the gardens, which you felt was excessive, please note that our tour is specifically designed to showcase the Royal Domain of Versailles, an estate covering nearly 2,000 acres. Our itinerary focuses on the most remarkable areas of the domain while using golf carts, bicycles or shuttle train to make the experience as comfortable and efficient as possible. Given the immense size of the estate, exploring even the highlights requires a significant amount of time. In fact, it would take several days to fully discover everything Versailles has to offer. Regarding the confusion caused by the temporary separation of the group, your party, along with another family, chose to take the shuttle rather than continue by bicycle. Temporary group separations occur regularly as guests are offered different transportation options, and situations such as the one you experienced are fortunately very rare. Nevertheless, we sincerely apologize if the instructions were not as clear as they could have been. Prior to the separation, the guide provided detailed instructions regarding which shuttle stop to use and where to reunite with the group. Unfortunately, there appears to have been a misunderstanding, which resulted in your becoming separated from the tour. We would like to note that the other family who received the same instructions was able to rejoin the group without difficulty. In addition, your shuttle ticket was included there were not reason for you to purchase a new one. As soon as it became apparent that you had not arrived with the other guests, the guide immediately began searching for you. Several attempts were also made to contact you by phone, but you were not willing to communicate and told us to leave you alone. When you were eventually located, it was clear that the situation had caused understandable stress and frustration, and we are truly sorry for that. Finally, we were particularly saddened to learn that you chose to leave the tour after reconnecting with your guide, as this meant missing the Palace and the Hall of Mirrors, which we understand was one of the highlights you had been looking forward to experiencing. You are welcome to contact us by message and we would be glad to offer you a new free tour, should you ever return to Versailles. We sincerely hope that this explanation is received in the spirit in which it is intended. We wish you and your partner all the very best and once again apologize that your experience did not meet your expectations. Kind regards, Kingtours

Terrific tour!

Everything was perfect, we had a blast and our guide was so knowledgeable and friendly! The itinerary and timing of the tour were perfectly balanced. Not too much boring walk despite the huge grounds. We 100% recommend it !!!

Great in theory, but the boats are dangerous in practice

The experience was amazing, and our guide was so sweet, engaging, and knowledgeable. The garden and fountains? Incredible, and the golf carts were invaluable in preventing exhaustion. However, why less than 5 stars? Safety. Don't get me wrong. On their part, the guides were very safe; but you'll need someone from your group/pair to row the boat (if you opt for that over the bikes), so be ready. The experience sounds great in theory; but allowing so many uncertified, untrained people to row boats in the same waterway, all with plenty of champagne, all without a chaperone or stationed safety personnel along the waterway? That is a BAD idea in practice. I'm so thankful that an accident didn't happen, and I struggle to believe that none have happened in the past. (The water was very dirty, so even with the provided life jackets, you do NOT want to fall in!) I was initially under the impression that the boat would be rowed by trained staff. That was not the case. I'm not certain how the laws would work regarding this, but I'm surprised that this method was approved and allowed.

Operator response

Thank you for sharing your feedback and for highlighting what you enjoyed about the tour — from the gardens and fountains to the comfort of the golf carts and the knowledge of your guide. We’re so glad you had a memorable experience overall. We truly appreciate you raising your safety concerns about the rowboat portion. For clarity, the boats are rented directly from the Versailles Gardens’ official facilities, where it is standard practice for guests to row themselves. Life jackets are provided, and the lake is calm and enclosed, but we understand that this experience can feel challenging for some visitors, especially with larger numbers of boats on the water. Thank you again Kind regards

Wouldn't book with this tour group, beware.

What we booked is not what we received. Handed us 7 tickets and said they were for everything. When looking at the tickets we had 4 for everything and 3 fit garden only. They said it would be fine. Then they said the boat part may not happen. Then they said our time to go in palace was in late afternoon, we had booked another tour for the afternoon. It was a big mess. We ran into the other King Tours group and they had a group in theirs that had the same issue. Would not book with them again. Guide even approached our son for more tip and said we shouldn't even have been on the tour but they compromised as a favor. Funniest thing I heard the whole day. We booked this trip and even had to use our Hamlet tickets booked with other provider to go in with guide.

Operator response

Dear Steve, bonjour. The tour you booked included golfcarts in the morning, then rowboats with champagne and a Palace timed entrance at 1:30. We discussed on th ephone with you and you informed us that you accidentally booked 2 tours that day, so we understand your frustration. As explained in the tour description the Hamlet was not part of your tour, therefore we did not provided tickets for it. However, after discussing with you, we offered to upgrade your tour and to extend it until 3:30 so you could stay with the guide and go toward the Hamlet. Since your initial tour included a Palace entrance at 1:30 we had to get you new tickets (the Palace was sold out that day, so we had to make arrangements) so you could access the Palace later, after visiting the Hamlet. Again we discussed the matter with you and you were the one who requested to stay with the guide and postpone your Palace entrance. The guide informed that you were very friendly during the tour and you were having a lot of fun and even offered him to join you after the tour to watch the PSG football game together. Our guides are not allowed to ask for tips as it is not mandatory. We are sorry if you were not fully satisfied by your Versailles experience with us and we invite you to contact us directly if you feel that you did not received the services you booked. Wish you all the best,

Delightfully enchanted

This was such a lovely experience. The golf cart tour through the gardens was amazing and informative. The row boat with champagne was so much fun for all in our group. We had a couple who had a romantic date on one boat and the other 3 of us all ladies had a fun time taking turns rowing, laughing and enjoying the beautiful views. For sure a highlight of our short 5 day trip to Paris. I highly recommend Kingtours for being very accommodating and putting together such a wonderful experience. I am very curious about their bike tour and hope to do that in the future.

Be ready to walk, even with the golf cart add on.

Cons: Very unorganized start. Met at 9:30 only to wait 35 min for the late party to arrive. Way more walking than we expected (I was injured and had trouble Walking). We assumed we would be doing the whole tour with the golf cart. That is why we booked. Be ready to walk A TON! The palace is packed with people all trying to navigate the rooms together and it is hard to get from one room to the next without someone elbowing you. If you have an anxiety or trouble in closed space, skip the palace part. Pros: our guide was very knowledgeable and kind. Took great pictures for us and was very likable. We learned a lot of history. We love, love, loved the champagne and row bow add on. However we had to go back and forth with the agent at the boat pick up that the add on was included in our booking. Finally resolved, but seems it should have been printed in our original ticket, which it was not. Luckily I had my Viator receipt that showed we paid for it.

Operator response

Hello, thank you for your review. The Royal Domain is 9000 acres and as it is a historical place not every corner is accessible by golfcarts so there is some walking to do ! I am sorry for the late start, we had some late comers, we tried to accomodate them by waiting a little bit. Wish you guys all the best, Regards,

Please read the entire review: It is not all bad.

I wish there was a maybe for the question on recommending the tour. The tour guide was knowledgeable and helpful. He did a fabulous job driving us around the see the grounds. When it came to the romantic boat escape, I wish I had read the instructions more carefully. I was not expecting to row my own boat (I am an older person traveling with my daughter). I did get enough courage to get on the boat with my daughter, who had only rowed a boat on the Nintendo Mario game. Once we got over the hump on how to row the boat, we had a few laughs (we did not stay in the water very much). We saved our champagne and had it with lunch. Getting into the place was a nightmare and I waited in line for 1.5 hours. I wish the tour would have made this easier. If you are interested in seeing the palace (which I would I would imagine it is an all-day event), this is not the tour for you. By the time I got in, I just had enough time to find the hall of mirrors.

Operator response

Hello, thank you for writing us a review. We provide timed tickets to the palace, and with those, guests usually stay in line less than 10 minutes. We are very skeptical about the fact that you had to wait in line for 1.5h, we had over 1600 guests in the last 15months, it never happened not even once ! You probably decided to show up early and the palace's staff asked you to wait until the access time mentionned on your tickets :) As stated in the tour description the boats part is a self guided tour, we provide the boats, the champagne and the privacy :) Guests are kindly require to maneuver their boats themselves, which makes the experience more intimate and fun :) regards, Nima
