Unveiling Gift shops is a more apt name

I booked this thinking we would spend a considerable amount of time at Pompeii, however such was not the case. First off, the guides were great, and hats off to the bus driver for navigating some interesting roads. We left Rome at 7:30 in the morning, and didn’t get to Pompeii until 3:00 in the afternoon. First stop was for coffee, with a gift shop you had to walk through to get to the restaurant. Second stop was a factory where they make the famous drink from lemons grafted on orange trees. After a 5 - 10 minute explanation on how they make this drink, it was into the second gift shop of the day, with some aggressive upselling. It was hard to swallow paying 6€ for a small plastic cup of the non-alcoholic slushy version of lemon drink, when we passed several roadside vendors selling larger cups for 1€. After this stop we hit Sorrento for lunch. After an hour and a half we were finally on the road to Pompeii, which we reached at 3:00 pm. We were told that we had to be back at the bus for 4:30 pm - an hour and a half to take in what we could. But wait, there was yet another gift shop we had to go through first, before our guide took us around a very small portion of the site. She was informative, and explained clearly what some of the structures were used for, but seriously, 90 minutes is no where close to for what was called “Unveiling Pompeii”. Again, the driver and guides were great, but the structure of the tour was not.

Little Pompeii

We barely saw Pompeii, and given how big the park is, there is no need to go to Sorrento to fill the time. You should go directly to Pompeii and spend more hours there to be able to see a large part of the city, which wasn't even half of it.

An unforgettable journey

It was an amazing experience. The site is very well managed and attractive. The tour guide Mara and onsite guide Marco provided well detailed information about the different areas of the city and the group was very small, less than 10 people which was very convenient and made the tour easier. It was guided in English. We highly recommend taking a tour with Gray Line I love Rome for anyonr considering visiting this exceptional city.

Amazing and well-organised trip to Pompeii

We are really happy to have gone on this trip. It was perfectly organised from beginning to end and the communication was excellent. Marco, who accompanied us on the bus, was very helpful and he made the trip really interesting and fun. On the way to Sorrento, he told us all about the different monuments and things to see, with impressive details. He made the whole experience even nicer. In Pompeii, another guide, Rafaele, took us through the ruins in an immersive manner and explained how people lived at the time. He asked questions and made jokes, which made the whole experience more interactive. The trip lasted the whole day, with most of it being transported from City to city. That was to be expected of course and the travel time didn’t make it any less of an amazing experience.

Organization below the announced expectations

Unfortunately, this is not a day for uncovering Pompeii. We only spent 1.5 hours in Pompeii. Therefore, very disappointing compared to our expectations. Pompeii cannot be uncovered in such a short time. Especially since I am told in the title that it is a full-day excursion. The day is more of an extra 1h40 round trip that is hard to understand to Sorrento for dinner. (To pick up people who slept in Sorrento, it is poor management). Why not stop directly in Pompeii and add this time to the site visit. In 3h, Pompeii would have revealed itself more. If the trip title was "Discovery of the valley road by bus, dinner in Sorrento with a short stop in Pompeii", we would have known what to expect.
