Later, drive through the Chugach Mountains, before finishing the guided, small group tour with pick up and drop off in Anchorage. Itinerary

120 min

The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is a sanctuary dedicated to preserving Alaska’s wildlife through conservation, research, education and quality animal care. AWCC takes in injured and orphaned animals year-round and provides them with spacious enclosures and quality animal care. Most of the animals that arrive at the AWCC become permanent residents and will always have a home here. The Center maintains over 200 acres of spacious habitats for animals to feel at home and display their natural “wild” behavior. Visitors may see brown bears cooling off in the water, a bull moose strutting, wood bison roaming on pastures and more.

15 min

This is a popular stop as you travel the Seward Highway. Here you'll find 180 degree views of Turnagain Arm. There's an extensive viewing area with spotting scopes and interpretive signs. This is an excellent spot to watch the bore tide. The incoming tide stretched the entire width of Turnagain Arm and can be six feet high as it rushes in. Watch for kayakers and surfers riding the wave for several miles. Look for beluga whales rolling in the surf (starting in September)

Turnagain arm day trip

Eli, our guide, was the best. Knowledgeable. Funny, and thoughtful. Made are trip special by conforming it to us and our interests. Was very flexible on stops, and gave us the time needed to give us great memories. Spawning salmon and beluga whales were the highlight. Learned a lot about Alaska, its habitat and wildlife. Thank you Eli. Pat, Patty, David and Carl

Wonderful day with Planet Earth Adventures!

Eli gave us such an awesome tour the to the Turnagain arm and the Conservation Center! He was a breath of fresh air in terms of enthusiasm and professionalism, and was one of the best tour guides my colleague and I have ever had. It was also a beautiful sunny day, and all in all a wonderful time! We also booked last-minute and the people on the phone and email were very nice and helpful. Thank you for this great experience!

Great guide

Best tour ever! Christine made this a memorable day. There were only two of us on tour so it allowed her to take our interests into account when deciding the day’s itinerary. She is very well-informed and knowledgeable about the area. She was very pleasant and wanted to make sure we had a good time. Christine’s the best!!

Nice tour

Matt was an excellent tour guide. I was a bit disappointed we did not actually go into Girdwood. I was looking forward to that. Weather wasn’t the best but was a very good tour.
