Join us for a photographic exploration of the stunning coastal and mountain landscapes as we explore the highlights of the Turnagain Arm. Your itinerary includes Turnagain Arm, Chugach National Forest, and Chugach State Park, with the opportunity to photograph mountain streams, waterfalls, coastal mudflats, glaciers, and both the Chugach and Kenai mountains. Depending on the season, wildlife opportunities may include bears, moose, Dall sheep, Bald eagles, and Beluga whale. Unlike other Turnagain Arm tours available in Anchorage, our tour does not go to well-known, crowded locations. Our objective is to take you off the beaten path to explore unique photo locations that provide great photo opportunities. Throughout the tour, you’ll be offered creative and technical support by your Alaska Photo Treks guide. It’s a great way to see the sights while honing your photography skills. Pickup Locations & Times
Tour pick up schedule will be sent via email no later than 24 hours in advance of your tour start time. Hotel pick up is available for all guests staying at Anchorage-area hotels. Note that hotels in Girdwood, Chugiak, and Eagle River are not included. Pick up from Airbnbs is available on a case by case basis as long as the location is near an Anchorage-area hotel in the Downtown, Midtown, or Spenard neighborhoods.

This was a wonderful tour. I booked rather last minute and they were wonderful about accommodating me. My tour tide, Ben, was friendly, engaging, and interesting. I'm a total amateur in terms of photography - I point and shoot with my phone. I took the tour mostly to see pretty places and learn a little about how to take pictures like a real photographer. And it was exactly what I wanted. We went to lovely spots and Ben (and others in the group, everyone was super friendly) gave me tips about how to break into photography a little more. The spots we went to were more unique than a lot of the other tours. Pick up and drop off were smooth, and communication was great. Overall would highly recommend.

If you are taking a cruise that ends in Whittier, do yourself a huge favor and book a transfer tour with Colin and Raina at Alaska Photo Treks. They picked us up right at the cruise dock and turned what could have been a mundane travel day into the absolute highlight of our trip. Instead of just driving straight to Anchorage, we spent a fantastic 4 hours exploring the landscape. Colin and Raina’s local knowledge is unmatched. They knew exactly where to pull over for the best light, angles, and scenery—hidden gems and spectacular vantage points that I never would have found on my own. As a photographer, the results speak for themselves. I walked away with several absolute "keepers" from just this single 4-hour excursion. Honestly, if I had rented a car and tried to scout locations myself, I doubt I would have come home with as many incredible photos in a full week of searching. I booked back to back private tours in hopes of capturing the moose rut. Colin Tyler was my guide both days. He was very knowledgeable and took me to all the hot spots. Was able to get some amazing shots for my portfolio. Highly recommended!!!

Colin was our guide and he was great. He helped me with the manual setting on my camera and gave me tips for taking better pictures. We were only able to see a bald eagle having some lunch. We tried looking for moose and dall sheep but no luck. He took us to spots with little people which was nice. I would recommend this tour for anyone wanting to learn a little more about photography.

We had a great experience on our tour with Colin. When I booked the tour I had hoped to see wildlife. Low tide and bright sunshine reduced the opportunity to see wildlife. However, the weather conditions created amazing conditions for landscape photos. Colin was very helpful in offering tips to improve composition. We were able to see bald eagles, but the Turnagain Arm and Portage Lake areas were the stars of the day!

Collin and Erica were fantastic they even took us by a bald eagle nest for a photo op and pointed out how to use reflections in the lake for really beautiful shots.
