Itinerary
Entrance to Baeza Cathedral is INCLUDED with the reservation of your visit. Learn about the architecture and history of this monument declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2003.
With the reservation of your visit you have INCLUDED the entrance to the "Torreón Puerta de Úbeda". The tower that defended the Úbeda Gate houses the “Medieval Baeza Interpretation Center”. Small interpretation center related to the complex defensive system of the city of Baeza and its medieval history. In it, you can enjoy its splendid panoramic views of the city and the Guadalquivir valley. Discover his model of the old walled enclosure.
INCLUDED in your guided tour is access to the classroom where Antonio Machado taught, from his arrival in 1912, until 1919, still preserved in the columned courtyard. In this high Andalusia, which seemed so “wet and cold” at first, he deepened his philosophical roots and wrote an important part of his work. The classroom is preserved as Don Antonio lived it: the same hydraulic floor, the maps of the time hung on the walls, the desks of the students, showcases with photocopies of documents, the same worn blackboard and the teacher’s chair; a closet with antique books and a coat rack with an umbrella along with a suitcase on a shelf, recreate the atmosphere of the second decade of the twentieth century.
Ferdinand III conquered Baeza in 1227 and Christianity settled in the city. Several parish churches were erected in a late Romanesque style, but currently only the church of Santa Cruz, located in the square of the same name and opposite the Jabalquinto Palace and the old University, is preserved. The temple is a small jewel, one of the symbols of Baeza, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2003.
Baeza is a university town. It was from the 16th to the 19th century and is now with the Antonio Machado headquarters of the International University of Andalusia. The original center was created in 1538 by a bull of Pope Paul III. Its original location was where the Baeza Museum is currently located. At the time there were only a dozen universities in Spain. Gradually, the center gained prestige and even became popularly known to Baeza as the “Andalusian Salamanca”, as the Castilian city was the home of the most prestigious university of the time. This second headquarters was erected in the same place where the hermitage of San León was located, to solve the problems of space that existed in the first location.
In Baeza you will visit the Plaza de los Leones, the Civil Court, the Public Scribbles, Old Butchers, Arch of Villalar and Puerta de Jaén. Continuing with the historic center with the Old University (indoor), Antonio Machado classroom (indoor), Santa Cruz Church, Santa Maria Square, Cathedral (indoor) , the medieval tower of the Puerta de Úbeda (indoor) where we will see the panoramic views of the city and the Guadalquivir Valley and the Plaza de la Constitución (old market square).

We booked the visit to Baeza. We really liked it, especially the guide who accompanied us. It provided us with many artistic, historical data, and ended with gastronomic data. He even played us ambient music of the time to put us in a situation. Great, we'd repeat. The visit extended longer than expected, because it adapted to our walking pace, and it didn’t get much longer.
Thank you for choosing our guided tour in Baeza and for such a detailed review. We’re very happy to know that the visit was enjoyable and that the guide’s explanations—from art and history to local gastronomy—added value to your experience. Creating a relaxed and immersive atmosphere, including period music, is something we truly enjoy, so it’s great to see it appreciated. Adapting the tour to each group’s pace is very important to us, and we’re glad this made the experience comfortable and engaging. We’d be delighted to show you more of Baeza whenever you decide to return!
