Itinerary
The tour begins in the mountains directly behind Jacó, and continues roughly half the distance to the peak of the mountain to a beautiful 35ft. waterfall (Cascada del Zorro) – a perfect spot to get a little wet and take some photos. After the brief stop, we continue up through primary rainforest and above the canopy to the top of the mountain range. Just beyond the crest of the mountain lies a beautiful mirador offering views of the ocean playing against sands as far south as Manuel Antonio, as far west as the Nicoya Peninsula, and as far north as the port city of Puntarenas.
We enjoy a cool drink with the view, and then continue along the ridgeline of the mountains that offer more incredible views of this pristine area. This primary rainforest leads the way towards the mountains that surround Playa Hermosa. After stopping off at one more epic viewpoint, we descend the mountains of La Gloria toward the Tulin River to our river-side lunch spot in the small rural town of Mata de Platano. Once fed, we start a new climb through the similarly small and remote villages of Montelimar, Angostura, Pavona and San Gabriel before passing through Las Delicias (population: 39) famous for its ATV and motocross rallies.
Though it’s impossible to describe every little pueblo we pass on the tour, suffice it to say that each has its own unique charm, and the locals always greet us with a wave and a smile. Once arriving in Bijagual - the last mountain pueblo we pass - we begin our final descent to a beach-side bar where we gather refreshments for the end of our beach run. A quick 2 kilometer run alongside the Pacific Ocean brings us to a view of the sun making its way for the Nicoya Peninsula on the other side of the Gulf, and chance to have a drink before heading back to Headquarters.

This ended up being one of our favorite excursions of our trip. The guides were very knowledgeable and made sure we were comfortable at all times. We got to see lots of wildlife and beautiful scenery.
We did this based on all the 5 star reviews. There were a few good views, and some of the trail was adventurous, but in the end, it was really just very long. Take a shorter version that gets you to the waterfall and the ocean overlook (which our guide was on his way to skipping before we asked about it) in a shorter time.
This was the best tour experience we have had. It was beautiful, so fun, and our guide was amazing! We saw monkeys, toucans, and multiple beautiful butterflies. We visited a giant waterfall and got to swim in the pool beneath it. One of our favorite parts was eating the delicious authentic Costa Rican food.
We enjoyed our ride from the beginning to the end. Our guide, Jordan, was patient and provided good information throughout our tour.
We had an absolute blast riding around with Tico all day! I recommend the full day tour so you can enjoy all of the different side trails and really sink into the experience. Thank you for a great day!
WOW!!!!!! I will not be able to eloquently express how FUN this activity was for me and my family! I booked this activity through Viator based on the fantastic reviews! My husband and 2 daughters 6 and 8 were looking forward to seeing the raw landscape of the rainforest. This activity is so well organized and CHRISTIAN our tour guide walked us through the safety procedures and he himself made the whole tour fun and made us feel safe! We were squealing and laughing while we rode up and down the mountain through the rain forest, dirt roads and mud, stopping at a waterfall where Christian took our photos while making sure to direct us, especially our kids, to make sure they had fun but kept safe! I highly recommend this tour!!! If we had time I would've rebooted it to experience the rush of driving on an ATV and excitement of seeing the beauty of Costa Rica!
My adult daughter and I took this tour. I cannot say enough positive things about it. Everything was perfect. The ATVs and helmets were in top condition, the trails were well maintained and our guide kept ini d that we were novices. The stops were amazing and perfectly spaced out. Just know that you're going to get a top of the line experience. We saw amacaw, monkeys and the backside of a sloth 😂.
Thank you Adventure Tours Costa Rica for a great time and for their honestly and integrity! I lost my credit card and they were able to find it and hold it for me until I returned to pick it up. Highly recommended
Description indicates insights on ecosystem and visit of villages… did not happened. We saw a wild toucan which was amazing but it was not planed in the tour, it was luck ! We stoped at one village to eat. The guide did not explain anything in regards of rainforest, ecosystem nor anything of this regards. We had a good time, Jorge was a good ATV guide, we felt secure. This is a raw ATV ride in the wilderness, a dip in the falls pond and a lunch. We should have chosen a similar but shorter tour.
This may be the top tour I’ve ever done. Fun on four wheels always works for me, but this went way beyond that. Our guide, Rodriguez was amazing. The scenery we saw, the vistas from the mountains, the clean rivers, all added to the joy ATVing in fun environments always gives me. The place we ate was breathtaking and included a visit from a scarlet macaw and the best local food we’ve had the whole trip. I think it was called El Tigre. So much fun!!
