The Accademia Gallery in Florence is one of Italy’s most famous museums, best known for housing Michelangelo’s iconic statue of David. Founded in 1784, the museum was originally intended as a teaching space for students of the Academy of Fine Arts. Today, it features an exceptional collection of Renaissance art, including other sculptures by Michelangelo such as the Prisoners and St. Matthew. Visitors can also explore rooms filled with Florentine paintings from the 13th to 16th centuries, as well as a fascinating museum of musical instruments. Michelangelo’s David is one of the most renowned sculptures in the world and a masterpiece of Renaissance art. Created between 1501 and 1504, the statue represents the biblical hero David before his battle with Goliath. Carved from a single block of Carrara marble, the 5.17-meter (17-foot) tall figure is celebrated for its exquisite detail, anatomical precision, and powerful expression of human strength and beauty. Originally placed in Piazza della Signoria, David was moved to the Accademia Gallery in 1873 to protect it from damage. Today, it remains a symbol of Florence’s artistic and cultural legacy.

I took a tour with the private guide at the Galleria dell'academia to see David. It was wonderful! The guide is named Janiel and was very attentive and explained very well. We used, also the audio guide that gave explanations in the Portuguese language. The tour was very good. Thank you Janiel👏🏼👏🏼

The waiting line is long but very fast, I recommend an audio guide, the museum is very interesting, but the jewel is the David, impressive

We had an amazing private tour with a wonderful guide, Claudia was so knowledgeable and clearly versed in history and artt of the Roman culture and church history. She has passion for sharing her expertise and spoke beautifully. Our two teenage daughters were interested and engaged the entire time and that is a feat in itself. Very good organization, we had to queue the same because it was a week of free admission to the museum but it was still very worth it, our guide Martina Ruzzolini the best, a very friendly girl and a great publicizer who managed to keep our total attention throughout the tour, making the visit a wonderful experience. Too bad it was only an hour.
