Teror and San Mateo Sunday Market Tour

Description
We head up through Tamaraceite into the island’s middle-heights area (600–1,500 m), a green region full of crops and rural landscapes that contrast with the south. This fertile zone, shaped by agriculture and livestock, will accompany us on our way to the charming towns of Teror and San Mateo, both home to traditional Sunday markets. In Teror, you’ll discover a beautifully preserved historic center, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pine, and elegant Canary-style manor houses. Its lively market blends local products, crafts, clothing, and souvenirs, perfect for strolling and shopping. We then continue to Vega de San Mateo, a town with deep agricultural roots. Its Sunday market offers fruits, vegetables, cheeses, nuts, spices, and more, all surrounded by aromas, flavors, and live music. Together with the scenic drive through the middle-heights farmland, this excursion is a true gift for the senses. Enjoy an authentic rural Sunday experience with us.

Can't give a review as we were not picked up! We spoke to the guide on our Friday tour who said he would pick us up at the same place (our hotel) and the same time. When he failed to arrive I tried to ring him, but his mobile was not accepting calls. I made a complaint to TUI, who said that I couldn't get a refund as we had failed to arrive! Please check your tickets for the pickup location and don't rely on the guide!
Lovely day out. The tour guide was exceptional. He was knowledgeable, friendly. Introduced us to local foods and drinks.
The market places. The Ride in the buss to get there. The guide was great . The landscape was great.
Sunday street market (Mercadillo de Teror) is definitely worth a visit. Many visitors appreciate the handcrafted products produced in Teror. I would recommend to try some local candied hibiscus flowers and aloe vera which are landmarks of Gran Canaria. You will also find a choice of local herbs, laurel or Eucalytpus leaves to bring home. Local honey, banana marmalade, almond delicacies can be as well a good idea for a souvenir. My favourites though were the local pastries.
Good communication around the pick up point and timings were excellent. Good tour guide who explained everything in three languages. Both Markets were full of local products and gifts, the San Mateo market featured a marquee with dancing with the locals enjoying the band. Teror is a beautiful town worth the time to see the local culture and beautiful streets and lovely architecture.
They changed the time and place of puck up at the last moment and refused to go to our hotel alleging that the bus could not pass the Riu Hotel barrier, which was not true. We spent one hour and twenty minutes driving around picking other passengers and the same in the way back. The places we visited were not that interesting, especially San Mateo. All in all a waste of a day.
