There are guides... and then there is José
Great experience seeing parts of the island. The bus guide was exceptionally nice and friendly, had a great time in our small group of 8 getting to know each other. Lunch stop was wonderful. It was really cold, something i didn’t consider so a jacket is needed. Maybe in height of summer it wouldn’t be so cold
It is a panoramic tour only; you mean to drive “by” and get an impression of the interior of the island; no indoor visits except for the cave museum. The drivers are drivers with flora and fauna knowledge but not tour guides; that doesn't mean you get that much information. What you absolutely need to know in pre- and post-season: It can (and was!) very cold in the mountains and has rained; absolutely take warm and rain jacket with you.
Excellent tour with friendly and informative guide
All the great places visited in 1 day. Of course it was not everywhere but gave a great flavour of the island out of the tourist areas, then you can choose where to explore more. The mini bus was extremely comfortable and the guide was very knowledgeable. He was patient with my mobility problems and I think, went out of his way to ensure I had a good day out. Nice small group too
Great tour across the island, Ana was an excellent driver. The beginning seemed a little unorganised but the day made for the initial chaos! Would recommend this tour.
Incredible views, so good to see more than the beaches. Slightly unfortunate start as we were looking for a “vimotions” minibus, but it had different markings, so neither us nor the driver made the connection. Long boring delay until it was figured out. So make sure you know what the car will look like, or the drivers name! Trip is long, lots of car time. We had a people carrier car, not a minibus, which is fine unless you’re in the back seats with fairly poor view. We swapped around halfway with the people in the middle seats so all had some window time. But it wasn’t ideal. The roads are in excellent condition, with sturdy barriers, which was reassuring given the occasional maniacal overtaking. The number of cyclists is both impressive and frustrating. The vistas on the way and at the top are fabulous and worth the numb bum. Oh and the tapas lunch is good, and was able to cater for gluten free. Overall a great trip, but take travel sick pills if you suffer 😁
picked up from hotel on time and tour of island and various villages was good with driver /guide giving amusing and informative commentary . enjoyable even in the rain . Tapas lunch at a local restaurant was nice (at extra cost ) . drop off back at hotel
A great chance to see the spectacular scenery of the island and some pretty villages and the cave house museum. Our guide and driver Kevin was excellent and did a great job of imparting information and making sure we all had an enjoyable day. There was some confusion regarding the pick up point, we had organised the pick up point when booking as the hotel, but Trip Advisor had not given ‘Discovery’ the tour operator the correct information, who thought they were supposed to pick us up at a different location. A woman from ‘Discovery’ called me to find out where we were but she was incredibly rude and put the phone down on me twice! I was trying to explain to her that we had received an email from Roger at Trip Advisor confirming the pick up point as the hotel, she said the driver had been to the hotel and we weren’t there, I said that was not true as we had been waiting for 15 minutes before the designated time in case our driver was early, and I had a time stamped photo of us outside the hotel to prove it. She told me the driver had gone to pick up other clients, was a long distance away and we would have to wait and cut me off. After waiting for another 10 minutes I called her number back as we were unsure at this point if anyone was coming to collect us, she said yes but we would have to wait and cut me off again! We duly waited and indeed our driver Kevin arrived, very stressed and flustered. It was not his fault, nor was it ours, and not the best start to the trip. Two takeaways from this experience are Trip Advisor need to improve their communication with the tour Operator’Discovery’ and the tour operator ‘Discovery’ need to employ staff who are more polite and respectful of their clients! Thank you to Kevin who gave us a great opportunity to view the island, despite all of the above we had a great day!
Bring water and coffee if you want to drink on route. The stops are too short to manage to wander about enjoying the views and stand in the queues for a coffee or drink. Otherwise, not to be missed!
