We Easily reach the otherwise hard-to-get-to Sounion. You’ll be dazzled by the famous landscape that surrounds the promontory of the Sounion. In the times of the ancient Greeks, this site was revered as sacred ground dedicated to the gods Poseidon and Athena.
Marvel at the Temple of Poseidon perched upon the cliff’s edge 70 meters above the sea. Walk the blessed earth of the Sounion, one of the places sung about it in Homer’s Odyssey. Stand upon the same cliff where it is said King Aegeus threw himself off. The tale is told in Greek mythology that Aegeus told his son Theseus that if he defeated the Minotaur, he should return to Athens with ships bearing white sails. Theseus forgot this request, and when Aegeus saw Theseus’ black sails, he threw himself from the Sounion in despair. Watch the famous sunset over this legendary horizon.
We start to head back to Athens again. We need 1 hour and 15 min to reach the center.

The drive and Cape Sounion along with the Temple of Poseidon was beautiful. Unfortunately the crew was very unorganized and had to wait for second bus, leaving over a half hour late. Itinerary stated a stop at Lake Vouliagmeni but we drive right by and guide stated that was not part of this trip even though it was in the description. Don’t skip this excursion but maybe pick a different company.
Very nice tour! A good bus driver and guide. The site is beautiful and we had time to spend at the restaurant for a small but very good dinner. The temple and sunset were breathtaking. We were glad to have chosen this trip.
My friend and I did this tour (visiting from Canada) and it was wonderful! Our guide, Alice, was knowledgeable, personable, kind, and funny to listen and talk to! The drive has beautiful scenery of the sea and cliffs - recommend the right side of the bus! Once we got to the temple, we had a lot of time to have some food and walk around to take photos. The view and energy is gorgeous and photos will never do it justice!
Natural beauty and a charming cafe were the highlights of the tour. The pickup was much easier than I expected and the tour guide, Alexandria, was easygoing and informative.
What can I say? The guide was more than mediocre; if he hadn't been there, it would have been the same... He even contradicts us when we are right... Next, the excursion, a tourist trap; yes, the view is pretty, but it's a rip-off... I think there is a way to find pretty places to have an appetizer picnic at sunset. Very disappointed....
This was a relaxing trip away from the city of Athens. We had plenty of time to explore. The restaurant on site was excellent.
The sunset itself was beautiful and worth going. They took us by bus, nothing extra. (The air conditioning on the bus was set to very cold.) It was not clearly communicated that the bus at the meeting point we chose would not leave at 4:30 PM, but only at 5 PM (so we were in a rush unnecessarily). The meeting point address given on Google takes us somewhere else than where we had to go. It would be better to show on a map where we had to wait or write there that this is the hop on -hop off bus stop. There was a rush on the way back too, because the bus leaves about 5 minutes after sunset. I don't understand why you can't give a normal time, e.g. at least 15-20 minutes, so that you can comfortably walk down and go to the bathroom. (The tour guide didn't even tell us that the downstairs bathroom would be closed, so we went there unnecessarily after sunset, and there was a long line at the upstairs bathroom.) There is a restaurant upstairs where we saw some delicious food, but unfortunately we didn't have time to order food. The audio guide is not worth much.
Sunset was amazing! It was especially nice that we weren’t rushed at all. We had around 90 min to explore the temple, eat at the restaurant or just walk around the area. Purchasing tickets to go inside the temple was simple if you didn’t choose that option. I recommend just paying when you arrive since it’s $20 euros per adult. The tour option up charges you a lot for some reason.. The bus was well equipped too. You get audio guides during the bus ride but it was a little hard to follow.
Though we did find the temple of Poseidon very interesting, it was just too long to be worth doing as a stand alone tour. The tour doesn’t even include the charge to walk up to the actual ruins, so you’re basically just paying for the ride rather than any real tour experience. There is only one option for food, and no museum attached to the sight at all. Only a gift shop. On the way back we asked the guide how many stops we’d make until our original pick up point. She incorrectly told us it was next so we ended up booking, and then being unable to cancel our Uber before realizing that was simply not true. The temple was very interesting from a historical perspective, but a six hours round trip was far too long considering nothing else was involved on the tour.
The drive to temple of Poseiden is scenic, the tour guide was wonderful and knowledgeable and the whole tour is worth to take
