Stairways to Heaven: Sunrise & walk at Pico Areeiro - Guided

Description
Witness Madeira’s legendary sunrise from Pico Areeiro (1818m), avoiding traffic queues, parking fees, and PR1 path access fees. Your adventure starts with a pickup at the Cristiano Ronaldo Museum, about an hour before sunrise, followed by a 35-40 minute drive to the peak. Upon arrival and after a quick briefing we’ll hike along the iconic PR1 trail connecting Madeira’s highest peaks, making stops at breathtaking viewpoints like Ninho da Manta and the famous Stairways to Heaven ridge. As the first light graces the horizon, you’ll capture unforgettable photos while soaking in the serene mountain atmosphere. The return hike showcases even more stunning views during the golden hour. The trek lasts 40-60 minutes, with stairs and night walking adding an adventurous touch. This experience is about 3:30 hrs in total, from pickup to drop-off. Please note the trail may pose challenges, including potential vertigo. In case of unfavorable weather, we’ll reschedule or offer an alternative tour.

We are absolutely not satisfied because we received an email only 12 hours before the tour stating that the tour was canceled due to bad weather. Since I do not check my emails every day, we drove to the meeting point where we were supposed to be picked up by the shuttle bus. Of course, no one was there. Okay, I should have read my emails; then I would have known, but it usually works through SMS or push notifications with other platforms. The fact is that the tour was canceled by Viator! As a reason for the cancellation, they stated "bad weather." That was definitely wrong. The weather was perfect! So we drove up with our own car and were still able to see this entire scenery at sunrise, albeit with a bit of delay. Unfortunately, we could not do the hike, but it was enough for a few photos. As if it were "bad weather," there were thousands of tourists there. We are very disappointed with this outcome! The only positive thing is that we received our money back.
One of the key points clearly stated at the time of booking is that this experience is strictly weather dependent — not on “good weather,” but on perfect conditions. For sunrise at Pico do Areeiro, “perfect conditions” means a clear sky, no cloud cover at all, so that the sunrise can actually be seen as intended. This is exactly what we offer as a premium sunrise experience. You were informed at the time of booking, and again on the day prior, that conditions were not expected to meet this standard. This was not about “bad weather” in the usual sense. In Madeira, especially in summer, it is not a question of good or bad weather — it is a question of whether conditions are suitable for a proper sunrise experience. With our local expertise and experience, when we assess that conditions will not allow a proper sunrise, we do not proceed with the activity, because the core product cannot be delivered. It is also important to clarify that a review of this nature, based on a cancellation decision made in line with clearly communicated conditions, is misleading. The experience was not delivered because it could not be delivered as promised — and the refund was processed accordingly. Writing a negative review in these circumstances does not reflect what was actually offered or communicated.
Perfect balance between self experience and safeness! Even when you want to do it alone — it’s the best thing you can do! Daniel is a super cool guide!
