St. Peter's Basilica Tour with Underground of the Papal Tombs

Description
Most visitors walk through St. Peter's Basilica without ever knowing what lies beneath. The tour takes you where most tourists never go, deep into the Vatican Grottoes and Papal Tombs, where centuries of history rest in silence beneath one of the world's greatest churches. Your expert licensed local guide will bring every corner of the Basilica to life, from the breathtaking beauty of Michelangelo's Pietà to the ancient underground chambers where popes are laid to rest. These are stories you will not find in any guidebook. The small group format means you are never just a face in a crowd. You get real answers, personal attention, and an experience that stays with you long after you leave Rome. Entry to the Basilica requires a standard security check at St. Peter's Square, and your guide will be right beside you, making every moment count from the very first step.

Itinerary
Construction of the current basilica began in 1506 under Pope Julius II, replacing an older 4th-century church built by Emperor Constantine over the tomb of Saint Peter, one of Jesus's apostles and the first Pope. The project took over 120 years to complete and involved some of the greatest artists and architects of the era, including Bramante, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Gian Lorenzo Bernini.

Please know that you may not get the experience that you purchased. We arrived for our tour only to find out that our tour guide was supposedly sick or out for personal reason. This is understandable because things happen but what I don’t understand is why the tour operator was telling that the same experience with an audio guide was the same experience as we purchased. What we purchased was a guided tour of St. Peter’s basilica, tour of the papal tombs, and underground tour of the necropolis. The Necropolis part is why we booked this experience because we wanted to see the tomb of St. Peter and the archeological dig below the basilica. This is a GUIDED tour and can be done in no other way as people are not allowed to go down there without a guide. The operator insisted that we could walk there ourselves which was completely false, and when I tried to book another day, the next day at the same time, even though the time slot was showing open, he said would be the same situation where the guide was not available. So my question to the operator is, what kind of a business are you if you can’t notify your customers BEFORE they get there about having no guide. Second, If you know that the next day would also be unavailable than REMOVE the time slot instead of allowing innocent people from purchasing a ticket to something that they won’t get, third, know what you are providing and know the tours you are to give because obviously you did not know that the necropolis is different than the papal tombs. STOP the trickery and be upfront and fair to your customers.
The guide did not turn up. WIthout the guide, access to Necropolis, which was part of the booking, was not possible. Were were informed about the access to the Dome, but the lack of access to Necropolis was not communicted at all. We realized the same when we landed up at the gate of Necropolis and had to return.
