St Davids Comedy Walking Tour

Description
An original and hilarious comedy walking tour of St Davids, guided by the "actual" St David. This is a unique experience, covering thousands of years of absurd mythology and questionable local history. Expect heavily-embellished part-biographical stories from Wales's patron saint, as well as tall tales about Vikings, monks and leeks, all within the beautiful surroundings of Britain's Smallest City. This brilliantly imaginative and very silly tour is a must-do activity for anyone looking for something different on their visit to Pembrokeshire. Suitable for all, involves a moderate amount of walking. Dogs and children also very welcome! For large groups (10+) please get in touch via email.

Itinerary
The tour starts here and you will get to see the eco-friendly outside of the centre plus a hidden garden, the legendary St Non's Rocks and a Neolithic picnic table.
Stryd yr Afr. Once a place of torment for the local monks, now clear of goats, we'll pass down freely without fear of being eaten.
Cross Square, St Davids, is the centre of the city, home to the local market, iconic cross monument and war memorial garden. You will hear stories about Welsh icon Owain Glyndwr, plus lesser known stories about the brotherhood of St David.
See the site of the oldest recorded bed &breakfast in the city (dating back to 11th century) and hear about a very famous former monarch who once stayed there.
An authentic RNLI barometer, yes, but it is so much more
The tour ends at the cathedral where you will hear stories about an epic battle between the Devil and St Dai and the original monastery. We don't go down the steps, so you are free to explore the cathedral in your own time

Highly recommended to anyone visiting the area. Was rather educational, however my partner and I spent most of our time laughing. Please do go if you get the chance
Really funny, I particularly enjoyed being given the defensive leek to ward off the ghost. It's amusing, relaxed and a good time. Would recommend. And when you research it, it is actually 100% verifiable (well, nearly).
We had a fabulous evening walk with lots of laughter. It was perfect for all ages, our youngest family member was aged 7, and oldest 74, they ( and all of us in-between) loved it.
We had a fabulous time , young and old alike. Our youngest Grandchild ( aged 7) said it was like being in an episode of 'Horrible Histories' praise indeed! The walk was so funny and entertaining and we all laughed a lot. Dai and Rug were amazing! Thank you for such a fun experience
Thank you so much for your lovely review!! Really glad to hear it was enjoyed by all. We will definitely be using that quote in future promotional material haha!
"Tidy" Highly recommend if you fancy 90 minutes of pure brilliance & silliness. Study walking boots not required but a leek could be handy. We are a party of 4 ancient pilgrims from times past, a Viking, a Roman, a Tudor and a Scouser, on a quest to visit all the UK cathedral cities. So lovely to bump into our dear friend, St David & his trusty side kick, Double Velvet Rug. The pair brought the city to life with their preposterous tales & dubious embellishment of facts. We are now on foot to Canterbury, therefore hoping that St David & DV Rug will offer Becket a Comedy Walking Tour franchise Thank you, Shield-Maiden Abs, Juno (aka Josie), Catherine (aka Martha), Scouse Bird (aka Mich)
Thank you for joining us! What a pleasure it was to have such a willing and eclectic band of leek-wielding pilgrims on board! Enjoy Canterbury, we'll be sure to get on to ol' St Tom and discuss a collaboration at some point. All the best! Dai & Rug
Good silly fun! You get to see St Davids from another perspective. RUG character is particularly worth a call out. (You need to attend to see what I mean).
Many thanks for coming - I'll be sure to let Rug know they've got some new fans!
Funny, friendly and highly educational. Really enjoyed it. History buffs could learn a few things on this tour. Hahaha. Thank you.
Thanks for coming, glad you found it educational!
This comedy walking tour was a lot of fun with lots of silly jokes. 10 and 13 year old really enjoyed it too. Would definitely recommend if you have a silly sense of humour.
Thanks for coming guys, glad you enjoyed it!
A Tour with a Great Deal of Heart We recently went on the St Davids walking tour and it's clear how much effort the guides put into their work. They were incredibly friendly and passionate, and their hard work to create a memorable experience was evident throughout the evening. Their enthusiasm truly made the atmosphere a pleasant one. They even encouraged a group rendition of 'Happy Birthday' to our six year old friend Albie, who walked past and recognised his fellow campers. However, we chose this tour specifically for the promise of both humor and historical accuracy, and unfortunately, it didn't quite meet our expectations on those two fronts. The comedic elements felt a bit forced and didn't land with our group, and we found that the stories were more entertaining folklore than verifiable historical fact. While the tour was not what we had hoped for, we do want to commend the guides for their kindness and dedication. For those looking for a charming, personality-driven walk rather than a fact-heavy or comedy-driven one, this might be a better fit.
Many thanks for your review Betty, even if it reads slightly like a teacher's end-of-year report on a couple of pupils who, despite their best efforts, can only really be praised for their positive attitude and punctuality, as elsewhere they have failed across the board. Thank you for recognising the efforts we make to try to create a memorable and enjoyable experience, we really appreciate it (and we do try!), even if the most memorable parts of our tour for some is singing happy birthday to a passer-by! Now, pleased as we were to hear that the atmosphere was pleasant, we were disappointed and a little confused as to the feedback regarding the levels of historical accuracy on offer, largely because this is not something we have ever claimed to provide. So to "specifically" book the tour on the basis of its purported historical accuracy would suggest you either didn't read the blurb properly, nor other reviews, or you read the full deliberately long-winded alternative title "The Best Ever 100% Verifiably Accurate Walking Tour of St Davids" and took this to be a literal description of the walk. Which would then lead nicely on to the other criticism of note, as featured in the above review: the apparent lack of humour. OK. As ever, we accept that the tour is not everyone's cup of tea, and nor could it be; we do it how we do it; some people love it, some don't, that is comedy. But when someone seemingly misinterprets the whole concept of the tour based on a face value reading of a (so we thought) tongue-in-cheek title, which alludes to verifiable historical accuracy and/or fact (something mentioned in the review on three occasions) it could suggest the humour may also be misunderstood. And this may also explain why some of the material (I'm going to assume it was the puns?) felt "forced", as, again, it will seem that way if everything is taken at face value. But also, please forgive Rug's endlessly excitable demeanour, he had it tough getting attacked by Vikings in the 11th century and he just makes himself laugh to forget the true horrors of those times. It is also quite likely that our guides will have stated at the start and end of the tour that they were happy to take any questions concerning anything you were unsure about. The tour can be very silly, we know this, and some times it may not be clear about what is true (or at least true in the sense that it is loyal to Rhygyfarch's 11th century text) this is arguably meant to be part of the fun. Ultimately, there's not a lot we can do if you don't read the blurb and then decide the tour is not what you expected it to be, but it is helpful for future attendees who may also be confused by the startlingly bold offer of 100% verifiably accurate history from a man dressed in curtains claiming to be a 1500-year-old monk. Thank you again though for your diplomatic "A for effort" review, you have been very kind in your appraisal to mention the passion and dedication we have for spreading the stories of a real world from so long ago that reality does tend to blur into fiction, and I will grant that you have noted the tour is certainly more about the myth and legend of Wales's patron saint as opposed to claiming to own the true history (again, something we have never claimed to do), so the term folklore might well be worth adding to our promotional material in future for the avoidance of doubt. Diolch yn fawr!
So much fun. Attended with my 2 teenage children and lovely to see them so relaxed and laughing. Totally recommend.
Many thanks for coming Cath, always pleased to hear the tour can work for the teenage demographic!
