Start your tour at the Mercat Cross and discover the importance of this 8-sided historically significant monument
Embark on a sensory journey through Scotland’s whisky. Explore Edinburgh’s Old Town, where the world’s largest Scottish whisky company was founded and a vibrant history of “aqua vitae” (or the “water of life”) began. Hear the stories of those who jump-started whisky production in Edinburgh, including the smugglers, bootleggers and other seedier characters of the Old Town’s underbelly.
Your expert will cover everything you need to know about the water of life; from how whisky is made to the effects that different fundamental elements such as water, barley, peat and the cask have on the production process. Nose and taste your way through the whisky regions, with sample whiskies from Speyside, Highland, Islay and Lowland distilleries. Just consider this your first step to becoming a whisky connoisseur!

This was a very nice tour. The above ground part taught us a lot about the history of whisky and about Edinburgh history. The vault tasting was a nice introduction to 4 whiskies from varied geographies and production methods. We had been to Johnnie Walker so this was a nice counterpoint to experience some smaller distillers. Mally was a great guide!

The booked ghost tour was simply amazing from start to finish! The stories about Edinburgh's dark past, the mysterious vaults, and the eerie legends were told in an incredibly vivid manner. A special shout-out goes to our guide Ash. She led the tour with an authenticity, passion, and excitement that is unparalleled. You believed every story she told and hung on her every word. With her charm, humor, and friendly demeanor, she made the tour something truly special. And yes – on top of that, she is also quite beautiful, which certainly made the evening even more enjoyable. 😊 You can immediately tell that Ash loves her job and is fully committed to it. Thanks to her, an ordinary tour became a real experience that we will remember for a long time. Anyone who is in Edinburgh and does not take this tour is definitely missing out. 10 out of 10 points – and if possible, definitely book with Ash! 👻🏰🥃
