Itinerary

Admission included120 min

The tour will start off from Gobustan Rock Art Museum and National Park. Those petroglyphs (stone carvings) are as important as Chauvet Caves, and were left untouched for milleniums until discovered in the 1930s. You will have a chance to witness prehistoric engravings, including images of old inhabitants that seem to be dancing a primordial dance!

20 min

Later on, the tour will proceed to the mud volcanoes area which is 20 mins away from Gobustan National Museum. Azerbaijan keeps the first place in the world for the number of mud volcanoes. About 300 mud volcanoes are to be found in Azerbaijan – at the shore, in the sea and on islands. During this trip you will get a great chance to see these rare and active volcanoes from very close distance. Some people swear by the mud's medical benefits, so it might be worth to try it on your skin!

Admission included60 min

We will have a lunch break at a local restaurant before proceeding to our next destination. After the lunch break, we will start heading to the ancient Zoroastrian temple "Ateshgah" which is considered as an authentic Azerbaijani exotic site to visit. It is located approximately 30 km away from Baku city center. You will learn a lot about the temple from your guide, particularly, more about the history of creation of such a temple in Baku and unique natural phenomenon of burning natural gas outlets.

Admission included30 min

After visiting the temple you will go directly to "Yanar Dag" ("Burning Mountain"), located not too far from Ateshgah Temple. It is the most famous and popular tourist site of the “eternal flame” in Azerbaijan. Actually, it is rather a hill than a mountain, with natural gas burning on its slope from ancient times. After the trip you can choose to be dropped off at your pickup point or any central city area.

A great trip to see lots beyond Baku

What a great day. Mirhashim was a wonderful guide, very knowledgeable in the history of Azerbaijan, which was just what we wanted. The highlight was the Temple of Fire. It was crazy to see how many evolutions it has gone through.

Good introduction to Baku's surroundings

I thought the visits to Gobustan, mud volcanoes and ateshgah were very interesting. It was also an interesting experience to see the environment of Baku. Vusal was a good guide who told his a lot about Azerbaijan's history, life in the country and even its modern music ;-). I though the fire mountain was the least interesting visit, perhaps not entirely worth the extra time.

Operator response

Hi Hans, Thanks for your review, I highly appreciate it! I'm happy that you enjoyed your tour with us. Fire mountain is definitely one of those places in Baku that quite a few visitors consider as "not worthy". I wonder if you'd prefer to visit another place instead or just completely remove burning mountain from the itinerary? Best regards, Eltaj Muradli - Baku Tours by Baku Explorer
