Sled Dog Kennel Tour

Description
Get to know the dogs of Susitna Sled Dog Adventures! Visit the home and kennel of Iditarod musher Rohn Buser and family, and spend time with our friendly team of Iditarod sled dogs as they run, play, and show off their personalities in a fenced-in yard. Learn what it takes to train and care for a team of canine athletes. We'll share stories from the trail, explain how sled dog racing works, and show you why these incredible dogs love their jobs. After some playtime in the yard, we'll harness up a dog, introduce you to the sled, and talk about the gear we use during Alaska's long winters. If we have puppies, we'll finish the visit with cuddles from the next generation of athletes. This tour is perfect for dog lovers who want an authentic, behind-the-scenes look at life in a working Iditarod kennel and, of course, a healthy dose of dog therapy. Tour is not recommended for very small children, as excited sled dogs will be running freely in the yard.

Rohn and his staff were excellent host. We learned a lot about sled dog raising and what's involved with racing. We enjoyed our chance to meet the dogs and visit with the pups. I would highly recommend this tour. It felt very genuine, not at all touristy.
We highly recommend this tour to get a very authentic (i.e., not commercialized) and comprehensive sled dog experience. Rohn was super informative - his answers to all of the group's questions were extremely thorough. We got to see the dogs in their kennel environment as well as off lead, it's amazing how social all of them are. Our tour included walking through the kennel area, petting the dogs, seeing the puppies (!!!), and getting to see one of the dogs fully dressed for sledding. The location was easy to find/access - we drove ourselves to the tour from Talkeetna using the GPS coordinates provided in the booking confirmation. Great tour!!
Rohn was passionate about his dogs and sledding, he has completed in many sledding events as well as the Alaskan the Iditarod. It was well worth the cost to spend time at his kennel.
We had wonderful time at the kennel, very well organised friendly team and great experience
I enjoyed the tour very much. The dogs were so friendly and the owners were very knowledgeable and very will to answer all our questions. We ended up with an hour and half tour and they were very will to give us more time if we wanted to.
This was such a fun & informative experience! If you are a dog lover this is a must & even if you aren’t, it was so great to learn about the dogs & how they are trained to become sled dogs.
We ended up being the only 2 on the tour. The road to get there can be rough so make sure you're in a truck. That is obviously not anything they can control but something you should know. The guide, Rohn, was knowledgeable and explained a lot about the history of dog sledding. The dogs were super cute and energetic. We got to play with the puppies and see how they prepare the older dogs for racing. It was a really fun adventure and something I've talked to others about several times since I got home. I really recommend a visit. We had the opportunity to visit some of the bigger kennels later on our trip but I'm really glad we did this one as it was a much more personal experience and something I'll remember.
Dogs are very well cared for & happy! Rohn was very kind and knowledgeable. He took the time to answer all our many questions of the history etc. He really loves his dogs and dog mushing. They are a sweet little family and the property / tour was easy to drive to & a beautiful area
I did the tour with dog walk and puppy visit in August 2025 and would highly recommend! Alyssa gave a great tour, is so knowledgeable and friendly, and made it a great experience! And of course the highlight was meeting all the sled dogs and puppies! They are so cute and their different personalities really shine through! It was a wonderful visit and I’ll following and supporting them for the Iditarod!
Very informative (they answered every question). Enjoyed visiting with all the dogs AND puppies! Great tour guides. We got to see how they get prepared to run their races.
