Itinerary
Meeting Point: The meeting point is our office, very close to the Museums' entrance, the exact address is Via Santamaura 14B. The closest Metro stop is Ottaviano. Please allow extra time due to traffic during the summer months! If you do need assistance with how to reach the meeting point, please don't hesitate to contact us.
We continue our visit entering Vatican City, the smallest country in the world. Encircled by a 2-mile border with Italy, Vatican City is an independent city-state that covers just over 100 acres, making it one-eighth the size of New York’s Central Park. Vatican City is governed as an absolute monarchy with the pope at its head. The Vatican mints its own euros, prints its own stamps, issues passports, licenses plates operates media outlets and has its own flag and anthem. One government function it lacks: taxation. Museum admission fees, stamp and souvenir sales, and contributions generate the Vatican’s revenue.
The Vatican Museums feature many works of art that belonged to the different Popes and are full of artistic beauty. Here is a glimpse of some of the most beautiful things to see in the Vatican Museums. Rooms and Galleries of the Vatican Museums, as the Greek Cross Room, the Gallery of Maps, the Gallery of Tapestries, and much more! These collections have been piled up over the course of centuries through acquisitions, donations, commissions, confiscations, and quite often lucky discoveries from underground Rome and not only.
Admire the breathtaking Sistine Chapel of Michelangelo! The most famous section of the Sistine Chapel ceiling is Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam. This scene is located next to the Creation of Eve, which is the panel at the center of the room, and the Congregation of the Waters, which is closer to the altar. Not everything was done by Michelangelo and your expert guide will be able to point that out. This proves just how great artists, even little known, left their marks in these magic locations. This is the right time to discover that!
If you thought the size of the Vatican Museums was overwhelmingly spectacular, St. Peter’s Basilica takes the “wow factor” to another level. The sheer capacity of the interiors is enough to leave any visitor searching for words to describe its vastness. At 613 feet long, 85 feet wide and 147 feet high, it took an incredible 120 years to build, starting from 1506. Admire Michelangelo’s unparalleled Pietà masterpiece and stroll towards the center-right nave to observe Bernini’s 30-foot high bronze Baldachin, which sits directly atop the site of St. Peter’s tomb.
A visit to Vatican City would not be complete without standing in awe of the beauty in St. Peter’s Square, also known as Piazza San Pietro. This massive square framing St. Peter’s Basilica is the location where the pope holds Wednesday General Audiences and special masses on religious holidays.

Amazing tour, especially loved Ennio! He was very knowledgeable and friendly!
This was an incredible tour and our guide Maria was fantastic! She was so knowledgeable and filled in so many details of thousands of artifacts, tapestries, Roman leaders and dates of when various buildings and items were built, painted, reconstructed, etc. This trip is a must if you're headed to Rome!
Cinzia was the best. We did 8 different tours on our holiday and she was the best one by far. She got us all the important info and sights for the Vatican, Sistine Chapple and St Peters. Very knowledgeable for all our questions. A++++
Brilliant tour with Mario. He was very knowledgeable, allowed time for questions, organised our group well and had good humour throughout. Nice small group size. Our favourite tour of our trip, would highly recommend!

Mario was great - personable and knowledgeable. We all had fun and would recommend - I think the half day was enough to get a taste of the Vatican and the history

Fantastic tour with Elaine, who is clearly enthusiastic about sharing her deep knowledge about the Vatican. Our family of four (including 18 and 21-yr-olds) enjoyed every minute. Elaine also maneuvers easily through the crowds, getting us to the front so we could better see the subject matter. She has a wonderful sense of humor, which she weaves easily into her presentation. We highly recommend What A Life Tours, particularly Elaine.
Dear Guest, Elaine is truly passionate about her job, and we believe it's this passion that translates into the amazing tours she delivers! She'll be so happy to hear that you appreciated her guidance throughout the sites and the way she expertly navigated the crowds whilst finding the best viewpoints for the group! Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on the experience and for the high recommendation; it really means the world to us. Wishing you safe travels ahead and all the very best! Kind regards, Carima
We had an absolutely wonderful experience touring the Vatican, St. Peter’s Basilica, and the Sistine Chapel with Mario. His knowledge of the history, art, architecture, and significance of each site was exceptional, and he presented everything in a way that was both engaging and easy to understand. Mario was organized, professional, and passionate about sharing the rich history of these incredible landmarks. He navigated the crowds efficiently, answered every question with patience, and added fascinating details that we never would have learned on our own. His enthusiasm truly brought the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica to life. What could have been an overwhelming visit became one of the highlights of our trip to Rome. If you’re looking for a knowledgeable, personable, and outstanding guide, we highly recommend Mario. He made our visit unforgettable!
Dear Traveller, Reviews like yours are exactly why, while visitors can certainly explore the Vatican on their own, experiencing it with an expert guide is the best way to make the most of those three hours. Thank you for taking the time to share such a wonderful review. We look forward to hosting you on future adventures! Until then, safe travels and all the very best. Kind regards, Carima
This tour was probably the best I've ever been on. Our tour guide Mario was very engaging and knowledgeable, he made the experience unforgettable. My wife, who is not a history buff enjoyed it immensely. Now I see why this is the number one rated tour for the Vatican.
Dear Guest, Wow! We're thrilled to hear that we not only met but exceeded your expectations. Thank you for choosing What a Life Tours and for trusting us with your Vatican experience. It was our pleasure to be part of your visit, and we're so grateful for your kind feedback. Safe travels ahead, and all the very best! We hope to welcome you on another adventure in the future. Kind regards, Carima
Speaker was hard to hear. Walked fast, talked to the group as he faced forward. Not very interesting.
Dear Traveller, Thank you for sharing your feedback. A mandatory audio and security check is conducted before the start of every tour to ensure guests can hear their guide clearly throughout the experience. Guests are also encouraged to let their guide know if the sound quality diminishes at any point during the tour so that adjustments can be made promptly. The tour is carefully planned and timed to cover all of the Vatican's key highlights within the scheduled three hours. The pace is intended to be leisurely rather than brisk, allowing guests ample time to appreciate what they are seeing, take photos, and fully enjoy the experience. As guides navigate busy spaces and valuable works of art, they must remain attentive to their surroundings and continue moving safely through the route. While there are opportunities for the guide to stop and address the group directly, much of the tour involves walking while sharing historical information and insights. We understand that different guests have different preferences when it comes to touring styles. For those who prefer to explore at their own pace, an audio guide may sometimes be a suitable alternative. Thank you again for your feedback. We wish you safe travels and all the very best. Kind regards, Carima
Great experience with Mario - he kept things interesting and engaged with everyone in the group. Good stories to give context to the museum and church, and also tips. Would recommend for stress free visit to the Vatican
Dear Guest, We aim to make the experience as seamless and enjoyable as possible for our guests, so we're over the moon to hear that you'd recommend the tour for a stress-free visit! That's exactly what we strive to achieve on all of our tours. We'll be sure to share your wonderful feedback with Mario; he'll be delighted to hear that he had such a positive impact on your overall experience. Thank you for choosing us, and we hope to welcome you on future adventures. Until then, safe travels and all the very best! Kind regards, Carima
