Itinerary
Park and Palace of Monserrate This fantastic Romantic park was created by William Beckford, who fell in love with the Serra de Sintra. Spontaneously growing species from Portugal (arbutus-trees, holly trees, cork oak-trees, amongst others) combine with others originating from all of the world’s five continents, inviting visitors to enjoy a stroll through plant varieties of the whole world, ranging from such countries as Australia to Mexico and Japan. Altogether, there are more than 2500 species. Particularly worth a mention inside the palace are the Music Room and the luxurious reception rooms, such as the Indian living-room, the dining-room and the library, all of which are to be found on the ground floor. The tour of the palace also takes visitors to the first floor, where the private apartments were located.
Pena National Palace The fantastic Palácio da Pena is one of the best examples of 19th-century Romantic revivalism in Portugal. Situated at the top of the Monte da Pena provides some of the best views and is the most visited monument in Sintra.
Very close to the historic centre of Sintra is Quinta Regaleira, one of the town’s most enigmatic sights. The palace was built in a Romantic revivalist style, in an imitation of Gothic, Manueline and Renaissance architectural and decorative forms, mixed with a mythical and esoteric symbolism. A special mention is reserved for the Capela da Santíssima Trindade (Chapel of the Holy Trinity), where visitors can descend via a spiral staircase into the crypt to discover the monumental initiation well that, at the bottom, leads via a grotto to a surprising lake hidden in the middle of the gardens.
The Sintra national palace is unique amongst the royal mediaeval palaces in Portugal and the town’s most distinctive building. Beginning with the nation’s first dynasties, Sintra was one of the preferred places of Portuguese kings and queensHere you can also find a brief history of the development of the decorative tile (azulejo) in Portugal, with examples ranging from the Spanish-Moorish tiles brought by the king Dom Manuel to the typical blue-and-white tiles of the 18th century.
The Moorish Castle dates back to the early days of the Moorish occupation of the Peninsula - the 8th Century. After various attempts it was definitively taken by Dom Afonso Henriques in 1147, and there was built the first Christian Chapel of the borough
At the bottom of the small promontory on which the village of Azenhas do Mar is located, on the coast of Sintra, there is a small beach with rocks that retain the water at low tide, forming a natural pool. The sea, the beach and the houses, framed by majestic cliffs, constitute one of the most beautiful scenes on the Portuguese coast.
Situated close to the sea and traditionally a fishing village, Cascais enjoyed an important period of development in the 14th century, when it was a major stopping off point for boats on their way to Lisbon, turning it into a very busy port at that time. It was, however, in the second half of the 19th century, when sea bathing became a popular activity, that Cascais was given the impetus that transformed it into a very fashionable summer resort.
Cabo da Roca is an important coordinate for those sailing along the coast, as it is the most westerly point of mainland Europe, a fact borne out by the certificates that visitors take away as a souvenir. Around 150 metres above the sea, here you can have a panoramic view over the Serra de Sintra and the coast, which makes it worth the visit.

Great day trip to Sintra and surrounding attractions including the coast. David was very knowledgeable about all the places we visited as he is a local, so this made the trip all the more memorable. We would highly recommend David's services, he is highly professional and just a really nice guy. Thank you for a great day out David!
David was amazing. He was friendly organized and very knowledgeable about the history the culture and the sites that we visited. He provided complimentary water, and safe travels to and from Lisbon. We thoroughly enjoyed the day. It was long, but it was great. Lots to see lots to learn about
David planned a great full day - Sintra, Lunch at the beach, driving along the coast, coffee and pastries in Cascais and back to Pena Palace. We enjoyed ourselves and David is a great guy who told us a lot about living in Portugal and his experiences. We would have liked more detailed information about what we were doing and seeing, but that did not seem to be his forte and his answers to questions did not have a lot of details. But the 4 of us enjoyed ourselves immensely and saw everything we wanted to.
I booked this trip for September for a family of four. David contacted me asking me to confirm which locations to see for the tour. He asked for the number of the lead guest which I provided to him. He then proceeded to text the lead guest and offer a less expensive tour. He suggested that the tour be canceled and that he could be paid in cash. This seemed very shady and it takes commission away from travel agents who do the work of finding the right tour for a client. David had good communication, but this is not a tour I would recommend due to the feeling of dishonesty.
The only reason i offer smaller price is because they where a group of four and i just wanted to make sure they didnt make any mystake booking a van for 8 unnecessarily. Also asked for number of the one who Is doing the tour because my tour is higly costumizable and i need to know what people want or can do. Besides other things like in this case booster seats for the kids. Being an individual worker and knowing 0 about travel agents i had no ideia booking a 4 or a 8 gives more or less comission to the travel agent.
There is a lot walking up hill and down especially if you visit the fantastic park around the Pena Palace. Our guide David was absolutely fantastic and provided us with some very historic information about the whole Sintra tour. He took us to a great local authentic restaurant, as that is what we preferred. The best tour guide we have had while travelling.
Thank you for the review! Im glad it was a good experience. Hope you enjoying Ferragudo area also ! Have a nice weekend
David was very helpful, knowledgeable, and patient. He took his time to explain everything, told us a lot about Portugal and its culture. It was first day when Sintra reopen after one months of being closed due to wild fires. David overcame many obstacles with traffic that day to make our trip very interesting and memorable. It was great experience for our family!
Thank you so much for the review. Im glad it was enjoyable for the family! I also enjoyed alot showing you around.
We had a great experience from start to finish! David thought of the little things from umbrellas to a selection of drinks. He took us to an authentic restaurant for lunch.
Thank you for the feedback. Hope you are having a blast exploring Portugal :D Regards for the family
David was awesome!! We had a great time with our 2 small kids, he was kind, patient and knowledgeable. Definitely recommend!!
Thank you for the feedback 😁
We had an incredible private tour of Sintra with David, and it was truly unforgettable! He was extremely attentive, knowledgeable, and made sure we saw all the highlights, including the Moorish Castle, Pena Palace, and Quinta da Regaleira. David’s safe driving and use of shortcuts helped us maximize our time and see everything comfortably. After Sintra, he thoughtfully drove us to Cascais and Belém, giving us enough time to explore each place. We spent nearly 10 hours with him, and he made the entire experience exceptional. Highly recommend—David is truly amazing!
Hi Elise, highly appreciate your feedback :D Glad you had a good time! Regards
Our group of 4 had a fantastic day trip from Lisbon to Sintra-Cascais. Door to door and no wasted time in lines or needless walking. Well guided full day seeing both what we wanted and what was recommended. Can’t say enough good about our guide David Santos. He was kind, flexible, knowledgeable, and spoke very good English.
