Schist Villages of Lousã, full-day from Coimbra

Description
Journey to the rural world, natural country side with tasting of local products. We traveled through the Serra da Lousã, very close to and around Coimbra, in search of ancient customs, rural routines, we enjoyed the local gastronomy, we admired the mountain villages of Cerdeira, Candal, Talasnal and Casal Novo built with schist stone. We will go to extremes, visit Arouce Castle and the natural beach Nª Srª Piedade at the foot of the mountain and climb to the highest point of Trevim to balance on the popular Lousã swing. Lunch will be served in a typical restaurant with local cuisine, chanfana (goat meat cooked slowly in a wood-fired oven). There are other options if you don't like this typical dish. To end the day, there will still be space for a tasting of PDO sheep and goat cheese, olive oil, bread and wine in the cheese capital, Rabaçal. After visits and tastings, we return to the starting point.

The trip into the countryside and the lovely villages we saw gave us another view of Portuguese life.
Thank you so much for your lovely review! We’re really happy to hear that the Schist Villages and countryside gave you a different perspective on Portuguese life and culture. It’s always our goal to share not only the beautiful landscapes, but also the authenticity and peaceful rhythm of these rural areas. We truly appreciate you joining us and hope to welcome you back to Portugal again someday! Cheers! Xavier
Fantastic experience. Beautiful scenery and waterfalls. Our guide was amazing. He knew all the best restaurants and local food places. Very knowledgeable. Customized our tour on the fly just for us. One of my best tour guides I have ever had.
What a big responsibility now that you submitted me :) I'm very happy that I met your expectations and it worked. It is my daily concern to create unique experiences... It was a pleasure to meet you and I would love to welcome you back on another visit to Portugal. Cheers!!!
A wonderful, if exhausting, day exploring caves, visiting a wonderful independent winery, and seeing the beautifully restored, medieval limestone and schist villages near Sicó and Lousã. Lots of walking, including some steep uphill steps, but VERY MUCH worth the effort.
It was to give you an idea of how difficult times were in the past :) you said it was ok to walk... I hope you enjoyed the cheese and lunch "chanfana" too. I look forward to your next visit to go to the other villages :) Thanks
