Rome Pantheon: Fine Food & Wine Pairing Dinner with Sommelier

We took a fantastic food and wine pairing tour in Rome on Monday, just outside the Pantheon, and it was one of the highlights of our trip. Our guide, Alex, was incredible. He had an impressive depth of knowledge about wine, food pairings, Roman history, and the neighborhood itself. We learned a lot — and not in a boring classroom kind of way, thank goodness. This was the good kind of learning, with wine involved. What really stood out was Alex’s knowledge of cooking and food preparation. His background in the food service industry added so much to the experience and helped us better appreciate each dish and pairing. Excellent tour, excellent guide, and a great way to experience Rome through food, wine, and local history. Highly recommended!

Alex was beyond amazing for our guide. He was not only knowledgeable but also very personable. My significant other and I had a wonderful time just chatting with him and we were thoroughly impressed with his depth of knowledge about wine and the local food. The atmosphere was very pleasant and the staff at the restaurant were very friendly. I mentioned it was my partners birthday and Alex took it upon himself to inform the staff, to which my partner received a candle and was sung happy birthday to. We were supposed to be with a group but we were the only two that booked the tour. Or sommelier Alex did not cancel and gave us a a private experience we will never forget. He had so much knowledge and taught us so much about pairing the right wine with each course. The restaurant was wonderful and he took us on a tour of the ancient bath house in basement now a wine seller. The wine was wonderful and the food did not disappoint. I was so thankful that Alex did not cancel because we were the only people signed up, we had another tour do that and it was very disappointing after booking so far in advance. This was one of our hi lights in Rome!

We had an amazing time with Alessandro with our food and wine pairing! The food was incredible and Alessandro (our sommelier) so much fun to learn all about wine, the food, and Italian culture. We didn’t want the dinner to end! We now feel more competent when it comes to wine and would absolutely book again to learn even more. This was one of our favorite nights of our honeymoon so far!

Excellent dinner carefully curated by clelia. Wonderful restaurant. The best eggplant parm we’ve ever ever had. Lots of good information, recipes, history shared. Highly recommended.

This dinner with Claire was like having a private dinner with your Italian friends. This is a must if you are in Rome. The food was amazing!

We booked through Viator—the other people that had booked didn’t show up, so it was just two of us for dinner. Our sommelier was Alessandro. He was fabulous! He made us feel welcome, comfortable and was very knowledgeable about food & wine. We really enjoyed our evening and would Highly recommend!
