Albert was a warm and friendly guide and Benecio was a great driver. Albert pointed out multiple frogs, insects, lizards and birds that we would have easily missed seeing with him. The meal was delicious and local. The property grounds were lush and vibrant.
Wow!!! This is a MUST to do if you are in La Fortuna. It was worth every penny! Our guides helped us find so many insects, frogs, snakes, and we even saw a sloth in slow action! Afterwards, we were treated to an amazing dinner at our host's family home. The family also hand made items that were for sale. The atmosphere was perfectly tropical and homey. This event lasted the whole evening. Be aware that it does get dark pretty early (6:00pm) so be prepared to get picked up at 5. The group size was small and personal.
Nice place to visit. Rained the whole time but the team was great and guy was very knowledgeable and passionate about bugs and reptiles. It was nice to be without a big group. Food was like family prepared so authentic.
The is a family home that has been slightly converted to support tours; but still 100% owned and operated by the family who live there. We got there and it started to rain... hard which put a damper on our plans so we pivoted a bit. Instead of doing dinner at the end they served it first. Costa Rican dishes are what we call "meat on the bones" back home - this dish was chicken cooked into a rice mixture with black beans and salad. It was so good - we also had a lentil soup that was amazing! By this time the rain had at slowed down to a drizzle and the lightening had stopped so we decided to go ahead with at least some of the tour - frogs at night. We saw so many cute little guys - we only did I think 1/2 of the regular tour but it was wet and raining... that being said it was also fun. How many folks can say they hiked in the rain, at night, to see frogs? Hike... well that may be an exaggeration; walked around a person's well established yard trail... It was cool and I'm grateful we pushed on and did it. I'd like to come back on an evening it isn't raining and do the full hike. For full disclosure it was our choice to not continue in the rain the guide was more than willing to get as wet as we wanted to. He was really great.
The night walk w/dinner was okay. We were expecting to see monkeys & sloths but most of the walk was about the different species of frogs, spiders & birds. The dinner was authentically delicious!! The ride from LaFortuna was 45 mins away each way which felt so long on the way back.
Wonderful experience with a lovely family welcoming into their home. Dinner made over a wood fired stove and everything fresh and organic.
Our family of seven and one infant had a wonderful experience discovering all sorts of creatures. Every twenty feet something was found. And, the fresh home cooking to end the evening was excellent. Knowing beforehand about the 45 minute drive would have been a deal breaker, but the whole experience made the drive worth it. Thanks for the memories! The Duby family
The guide, Andres, was extremely knowledgeable. The property, walk, and dinner were great. Saw a variety of frogs and insects, as well as a sloth and red Macaw. Having Andres’ binoculars and the flashlights were extremely helpful
We had the best experience on our night tour! Our guide, Yara, was so knowledgeable about all of the animals and noises and was able to find so many frogs, lizards, bugs and even a sloth! She knew so much about the area and the history! It said in the tour description that there was a typical Costa Rican dinner, what we did not know was that it was at the home of a family that owns the property went to! It was an amazing meal! And the family was so kind and shared about their home and the land! They even had an adorable dog Nala! We had our kids with us and the other people on the tour were older but Yara was able to speak to the kids and adults alike and was so kind and helpful! It was a great tour!
Our family had a lot of fun on this tour. I’ll start with the positives. The property they take you to is beautiful. It’s a family estate with a gorgeous house and gardens. The dinner is amazing; they cook it for you right on the open stove. The guide was also very knowledgeable and passionate about nature. Only reason isn’t five stars is I thought we’d get to see a little more wildlife. We saw frogs and some insects, which were very cool, but was hoping for some snakes and mammals. Of course there’s no guarantee will see anything because some nights animals might not come out but if you’re looking for a walk through a thick rainforest this isn’t really it. Is all on one private property out in country so less chances will see some species. So whether to book this tour depends on what you’re looking for. If you want guaranteed frogs and a great dinner this is for you. If want good chance for more diversity might be other better tours.
