The Roman Theatre of Cartagena, built in Roman times (1st century B.C., in the time of Augustus), surprises from the outside by its imposing cave integrated in the city and its unique mixture of Roman remains with later buildings.
Built at the beginning of the 20th century (1907–1916, in the midst of the modernist boom), Gran Hotel Cartagena stands out for its elegant facade and its role as a symbol of the city’s bourgeois splendour.
The Plaza de San Francisco, configured between the 19th and 20th centuries, stands out for its stately atmosphere and for housing the Casa Maestre (1906, modernist), one of the most representative buildings of the bourgeois splendour of the city.
