Private Tour Hondarribia, San Juan & San Pedro from San Sebastian

Description
Explore eastern Gipuzkoa on a private tour from San Sebastian with an exclusive guide and vehicle, visiting three maritime gems in one itinerary. Begin in Hondarribia, where the walled historic center and La Marina quarter reveal palaces, cobbled streets, and brightly painted wooden balconies along the Bidasoa, with stories of the town’s borderland role and fishing tradition. Ascend to Jaizkibel viewpoint for panoramic Basque coastline views, then descend to the Bay of Pasaia, where San Juan Pasai Donibane and San Pedro preserve stone houses, narrow streets, and smoky quay grills. Weather permitting, cross the estuary by boat for perfect photo opportunities. With private transport, flexible stops, and personalized attention, this tour blends heritage, viewpoints, and seafaring life before returning to Donostia with memories of the Cantabrian coast.

Itinerary
First, we will explore the medieval town of Hondarribia, one of the best-preserved gems of the Basque Country. Strolling through its historic Old Town, we’ll admire the ancient city walls, charming cobbled streets, and colorful Basque houses with traditional wooden balconies. Next, we will walk through the fishermen’s quarter, a lively neighborhood where local traditions and modern Basque gastronomy come together. As we explore, your guide will share fascinating stories about Hondarribia’s rich history, from battles and fortresses to its role as a cultural and culinary hotspot.
Cross Mount Jaizkibel, one of the highest points along the Basque coast, and take in breathtaking panoramic views of the coastline and the Bidasoa River, which uniquely separates Spain from France. Along the way, you’ll spot local breeds of sheep and ponies roaming freely in semi-wild conditions, adding to the natural beauty of this untouched landscape.
To conclude our journey, we will head to Pasajes Bay, a hidden gem along the Basque coast. Here, we will take a 2-minute scenic ferry ride across the bay (included), connecting the charming twin villages of San Juan and San Pedro. As we glide over the water, enjoy stunning coastal views and the tranquil atmosphere of this picturesque fishing enclave. During the ride, we will dive into fascinating stories about the Basque whaling tradition, a key part of the region’s maritime history. We’ll also introduce you to one of our favorite Basque sports: rowing, deeply rooted in local culture and still passionately practiced today.

Thank you Leslie! See you soon
I did two tours with them, one through Hondarribia, San Juan and San Pedro and another through Zumaia, Zarautz and Getaria, both routes were beautiful, charming towns. The excursions were very well organized, we went with Félix and he is a luxury, he tells the story, anecdotes, places, he controls it wonderfully and he also drives very well, a highly recommended experience.
¡Gracias Maite! Siempre es un placer para nosotros recibir comentarios tan positivos como el tuyo.
