An explanation of the role of Hougoumont in Wellington’s defensive lines, as well as colourful descriptions of the troops occupying and attacking the fortified farmhouse, as the day progressed on the 18th of June, 1815.
The Lion's Mound, overlooking what once was a battlefield, commemorate the Allies' victory over Napoleon's imperial trips. The beast, placed on top of this 40 metres hill, seems to be roaring towards France still.

The Emperor ordered a halt at the Ferme du Caillou, which was to become Napoleon's Last Headquarters. The Emperor, surrounded by his General Staff, spent the night of 17 to 18 June 1815 there under the protection of the Imperial Guard. It was here that the battle plans were drawn up.

An excellent experience with a pick up from the hotel and a very knowledgeable guide with us. We were just 2 of us so it felt like a personal tour just for us. We explored all the sites in detail including going up to the top of Lion’s mount. Great driving by our chauffeur too
