Itinerary
In the morning, your professional guide will wait for you at the lobby of your self-booked hotel in Shanghai at an appointed time. After a warm greeting, you will be driven about 1.5 hours to Suzhou. The guide will briefly introduce Suzhou City, praised as the Oriental Venice, to you. Upon arrival, your tour guide will immediately accompany you to tour the Humble Administrator's Garden, which is a classical garden full of graceful scenes.
Then, you will go sightseeing through the Suzhou old town. Sitting on the tricycle, you can have a nice glimpse of the ancient constructions existing over the years within the old block. Today's lunch is not included in the price, but the tour guide can recommend several local restaurants according to your palate if needed.
After that, you will be guided to the Tongli Ancient Town. Due to the long history and thoughtful preservation, Tongli is a wonderful place where people can appreciate the glamour and charm of the water town along the Yangtze River in China. Your private Shanghai to Suzhou day trip will end here. Then the tour guide will escort you back to your hotel in downtown Shanghai.

A highly recommended day trip outside of Shanghai. It’s a unique experience to see a traditional water village and beautiful gardens. Our guide Chloe was informative and made sure we had all of our questions answered. We had the chance to meet local artists, and enjoy a traditional lunch. We had a very enjoyable day. We went to two different Classical Gardens. One of grand scale and lots of visitors and the other smaller and less crowded. We had five days in Shanghai so we took this one day excursion trip to nearby Suzhou and the watertown of Tongli. It was a wonderful experience and our knowledgeable guide Martin enriched us with explanation of the cultural history of the gardens and mansions we toured. We ended the tour with a beautiful boat ride on the waterways of Tongli! Would certainly recommend this tour with Martin as your guide.
