Itinerary
Our tour starts in the city of Bergen - the Gateway to the Fjords. The city was founded in 1070 and contains many historical and cultural landmarks. We will pass some of them on our way from the city and also on our return to Bergen. (Usually we do not stop here.)
Sørfjorden or the South fjord is part of the Osterfjord which is a peculiar natural phenomenon: an salt water inlet that surrounds the largest inland island in Northern Europe - Osterøy Island - enclosed by contitental land. We drive along the South fjord until we come the the crossroads in Trengereid.
From the village of Trengereid we take Route #7 to the Hardangerfjord. (Usually we do not stop here.)
Hardangervegen or the Hardanger Road is Norwegian route #7. This road is a tourist attraction in itself. We will see beautiful sights along the way: mountains, lakes and waterfalls. On the way to the Hardangerfjord we will make two photo stops at 2 waterfalls: Fossen Bratte and Steinsdalsfossen.
We make a stop at Fossen Bratte waterfall - 259 feet (79 meters) tall. The view is great and you can take some memorable pictures here. A short walking tour to the bottom of the waterfall is highly recommended - you simply must feel the roaring freshness and gentle and pure water drops on your face.
The next stop is at Steinsdalsfossen waterfall - 164 feet (50 meters) tall. You can actually walk behind the falling water without getting wet. A walk behind the waterfall to the view point is highly recommended.
We pass through a small town of Norheimsund - the local municipal administration center on our way to the Hardangerfjord.
The Hardangerfjord is the second longest fjord in Norway. We will be travelling along the fjord to Tørvikbygd - a small village from where a car ferry will take us acorss the fjord to Jondal - a settlement on the south side of the Hardangerfjord. The ferry ride takes approx. 20 minutes. While on the ferry, we can leave the car and enjoy a different view of the fjord.
The ferry arrives in the village of Jondal and from here we start our ride to Folgefonna glacier. Mesmerising views of the rugged mountain scenery will make an unforgettable impression.
Ascending from the sea level at the Hardangerfjord to the hight of approx. 3940 feet (1200 m) ASL, the mountain road takes us to Folgefonna glacier. Folgefonna has a ski center operating during summer. Here we will have our picnic/lunch if this option is booked. A glacier hike can be booked as a part of a group or with a private glacier guide, for additional payment in advance - we would have to make arrangements. After a refreshing break at the bottom of the glacier we start our return to Bergen.
We return to Jondal. The ferry takes us back to the north side of the Hardangerfjord. Ferry crossing takes approx. 20 minutes. We return to Bergen the same way.

Our family was in Bergen for just a few days and we wanted to maximize our stay with a visit to the glacier. We booked this trip with Vlad who was an exceptional guide/driver. His communication prior to our visit was professional and responsive and helped us plan our time efficiently. His knowledge of Bergen and Norway was exceptional and his heartfelt love of Norway was wonderful. During our trip he enthusiastically pointed out stunning scenery and personalized our trip so we could stop and take photos while also keeping us on schedule since he was so familiar with the country. He made this such an exceptional day for our family and went well out of his way to make this such a special trip for which we are grateful.
Dear Susan, Thank you so much for your kind words! We're thrilled to hear that you had a great experience with us. Your satisfaction is our top priority, and we hope to welcome you back on another adventure soon! Sincerely, Vlad
Our day with Vlad was the highlight of our visit in Norway. He was a great guide, driver and talented photographer! We saw so many beautiful, non-touristy places! Don’t hesitate booking a day trip with him!
Dear Vivian, thank you for taking the time to leave such a positive review! We're delighted that you enjoyed your trip, and we're excited about the possibility of serving you again on your next journey! Sincerely, Vlad
Vlad was great and very knowledgeable. We booked a private tour to see waterfalls and Folgefonna Glacier. The waterfalls were so beautiful and the ferry rides were so interesting. The landscape was amazing going up to Folgefonna. Even though the clouds were low and it was rainy, it was still a great day. Vlad made up for the weather by taking us to places just as beautiful that were not affected by the weather. He was very good at maximizing our time so that we got to enjoy every moment we had on our limited time off the ship. Excellent tour company! Don H
