Itinerary
A visit to Al Khor, located at 50 kilometers north of the capital, Doha. Considered one of Qatar's largest cities. Al Khor is home to many employees of the oil industry due to its proximity to Qatar's northern oil and natural gas fields and to Ras Laffan Industrial City.
The mangroves colony is not only a major tourism product for Qatar but an important natural environmental resource for Qatar. It provides a natural habitat and a sanctuary for birds, fish and other animals as well as prevent coastal erosion.
The Purple Island, also known as Jazirat bin Ghanim, about an hour's drive from Doha. It is a small island, connected to the mainland by a narrow path that is broken at different points to allow water to flow towards the mangrove forest.
Al Zubarah is Qatar’s largest archaeological heritage site. It was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013 and is the best-preserved example of an eighteenth – nineteenth century trading and pearl fishing town in the Gulf region. Unlike its contemporaries, it is largely intact and has not been lost beneath the region’s vast modern cities. The site, located approximately 100 km northwest of Doha, stretches 2.5 km from the Al Zubarah Fort to the coast. Founded in the mid-eighteenth century, the town developed into the country’s largest and most important settlement. Its success attracted the attention of other Gulf powers, and after several attacks the town was burned to the ground in 1811. By the first decades of the 20th century, it was abandoned. Today, the site covers an area of 60 hectares with remains of houses, Masajid (mosques), Madhabis (date presses), large, fortified buildings, and a market.
The old pearling and fishing village is the place to see for those interested in heritage and learning more about the history of Qatar.
A traditional regional sport, the first professional camel races were held in qatar in 1973 with 300 participating camels. Today the races are held at Al Shahaniya Camel Racing Track located at one hour of northwest of doha where you may see young camels paired with more experienced camels as a part of their ongoing training, The venue hosts both domestic and international tournaments. Visitors might get a chance to witness any of these races.
One of the most amazing historical landmarks in Qatar, the Zekreet Fort is one of the very few historical places in Qatar that underwent two different phases of construction. Here's how it all unfolded
Richard Serra adds the astonishing East-West/West-East sculpture to the desert landscape, taking art to the people. Serra's public art has always been driven by a desire to take sculpture off the pedestal and on to the street. To him, the content of the work derives from interaction with the viewer, meaning he always has visitors in mind. He acknowledges that he can't predetermine what people will make of it.

Many roads in a beautiful air-conditioned landrover but very beautiful discovery of the country and culture thanks to the information and answers of our wonderful guide Zohaib. Stopping at the port of Doha, we received the pick-up time and place by WhatsApp the morning before arrival in the port. The pick-up (9:15) and return (16:00) a few meters from the terminal, tasting of Qatari tea and water provided is highly appreciated. I highly recommend this excursion.
