Lyon Old Town Food Tour with 5 French Delicacies & Fine Wine

Description
Food is undoubtedly one of Lyon's most beloved traditions. Since 1935, the city has been considered the world capital of gastronomy. When Lyon's culinary traditions were being forged, the famous "Mères Lyonnaises" (Lyonnaise Mothers) managed to turn Lyon cuisine into an institution. Today, male chefs dominate the scene, like the famous Paul Bocuse, however it is the women who evolved the renowned cuisine. Many of the recipes around the city are unchanged from their humble beginnings, meaning you'll have the opportunity to taste the culture and history that has turned Lyon into the culinary hub it is today. We'll guide you through this gastronomic journey infused with passion, history, and exquisite French food and wine. Find out why eating and drinking are not just a pastime in Lyon, but a way of life.

Our tour guide Anna, was incredible. She was so friendly and so knowledgeable about the history of Lyon and the history of gastronomy here. The food that we tasted today was true to the area and region. There were many hidden gems along the way and secrets to learn when you take this amazing tour. Thank you Anna for a WONDERFUL experience.
We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. It's great to know everything came together so well for you. We look forward to welcoming you back to Secret Food Tours!
Nathalie was fantastic. Vibrant and excited about Lyon. She was so interesting and we learned so much about Lyon, and tried wonderful foods and sweets. Such a treat to have her guide us around Historic Lyon. Our first stop was my favorite. Fred had the best cheese and sausage and a great sense of humor. Selfishly, there was only one other couple so it was more intimate. First rate!
Guest comments are one of the things that make this work so rewarding. Knowing that your experience became such a memorable part of your travels is wonderful to hear. We hope to see you again with Secret Food Tours!
This is a great tour. Loved the way Charlotte incorporated history of Lyon with the foods. Stops were well selected and fun. Just beware that there is quite a bit of delicious food and lots of walking ( wear comfortable, sensible shoes). This was a terrific 3 hours. We feel we know Lyon a little better. Would definitely like to have Charlotte for another tour, loved her perspectives and knowledge.

We had a fantastic tour with Charlotte. She gave us a lot of interesting historical context on the foods we tasted and on the city of Lyon. The food was amazing and plentiful. I highly recommend this tour!

Anna was a fantastic guide! I booked this tour for myself and a friend; unfortunately, I fell ill the day of the tour and had to send my friend forward solo. Anna ensured that my friend had a great time, but packaged up some of the treats from the tour so that I could experience them when I was feeling better.
It's always rewarding to receive feedback like yours. We're pleased that your day with us left such a lasting impression. We hope to host you again with Secret Food Tours!
I was expecting the best of Lyon, the food capital of France., but this trip overlaps too much with the old Lyon food tour. We could have have other favorites of Lyon rather than charcuterie ( 3 same types of cold cut meat served everywhere vs more variety and better quality at Les Halles de Lyon food tour) and quenelle. More vegetables would be nice to balance the heavy meal. More small samples would be preferred over few big portions. For example, smaller samples of desserts is better than one giant praluline. Our guide is very nice and gave us the list of food we tried. I realized she had to go by the company's pick of places to eat and what to eat. If there were better ways to allow for flexibility to adjust to dietary restriction and preference, it would make the trip better, too. The better quality of food and more variety is at Les Halles de Lyon food tour. This tour seems as a step between that and the history food tour without the deeper history but with more liquor and syrup. So, this felt like a redundant tour for us. I picked it because I didn't know it would overlap so much with the Lyon Old Town Food tour. By the way, this sunset food tour didn't involve watching the sunset at any point. To make this food tour stand out aside from offering an evening one is perhaps have food at Fourviere to actually see the sunset? It was a good tour but knowing what I know now I wouldn't pick it. Better to just go on my own to different restaurants for more variety of flavors and bites.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We do appreciate you taking the time to compare your experience across multiple tours and explain what worked well for you and where you felt there could be more distinction. Our tours are thoughtfully curated to highlight the local food culture and provide guests with an introduction to the flavors, traditions, and stories that make each destination unique. While some experiences may naturally share elements that are considered representative of the region, we understand that guests who have already explored other local food tours may be looking for a different balance of flavors, pacing, and variety. We're also pleased to hear that your guide helped make the experience enjoyable and provided additional information about the food items featured throughout the tour. Our guides work hard to create a welcoming experience while bringing local knowledge and personality to each outing. We equally appreciate your comments regarding variety, portion sizes, dietary flexibility, and the overall distinction between different tour experiences. Feedback like yours is valuable because it helps us better understand how guests with previous experience of the local food scene perceive our tours. Thank you again for joining us and for sharing your thoughts. We hope we'll have the opportunity to welcome you on another tour in the future and introduce you to a different side of the local culinary landscape!
