We’ll visit the iconic Gernika Tree, under which Basque leaders have sworn oaths for centuries, and explore the Parliament House gardens. Next, we’ll see the powerful mural reproduction of Picasso’s "Guernica", a tribute to the tragic bombing during the Spanish Civil War. Your guide will explain the historical context and emotional impact of the attack, as well as the significance of the painting itself.

It was a great trip - a good amount of time in each place, and Paul was a wonderfully friendly and well-informed guide - truly a local expert! The three places we visited formed nice contrasts - the dramatic setting of Gaztelugatxe, the pretty village and estuary of Mundaka, and the sad history of Gernika - to make up a very good day. Paul was careful to make sure we knew that a steep walk was ahead of us for Gaztelugatxe (not an issue for either of us, but we appreciated the care he was showing) - the views were stunning. A choice of two restaurants in Mundaka for a light lunch, and lovely food at the one we chose, with a terrace table by the harbour...
